Shin Hong holds all the cards. Chulin's servant confirms his secretly held suspicions;that Goem is DJY's son. He knows that Li Kaigu has withheld the information from him. As Inspector Poirot says, "the little grey (brain) cells" will be working overtime. Which way will the snake slither? He has SO MANY options. 1. He tells the King, who turns against DJY & Co. in spades. In addition, the King turns against his own daughter, denying Chulin the throne and turning against Goem and Li Kaigu as well. 2. He goes to Sun ?, the fellow who is in the direct line of succession as Khan. That fellow is already half out of his mind with worry about whether he will be done out of the throne. When Sun discovers that Goem isn't Li Kaigu's kid, he figures (with Hong's help, of course) that HE has to fight for "his" throne against DJY And Li Kaigu. Hong convinces the guy that the King wants to put DJY on the Kaitan throne because of the Goem factor. 3. He goes to Li Kaigu and Chulin and attempts to blackmail them or he'll go to the King. Hong can, all on his own, destroy the entire group. He's got the WHOLE WORLD in his hands.

Hmmm...no, I don't think he'd go against DJY on account of that....King Jinzhong would be shocked to high heavens, but his respect for DJY is also way up there....And DJY is doing the King's dirty work by clearing Liadong of Tang Chinese.... Well, that's another option, but DJY will be out of the country for a long while....It's logical to assume (from Hong's and Sun Wanrong's point of view) that Geom will be DJY's ticket to the Khitan throne....Li Kaigu would seem like a much closer threat, but then again, why would Hong help Wanrong when Hong is Kaigu's right hand man? Now that's a new one, but however twisted Shin Hong is, his loyalty to Kaigu is what defines his character. Hmmm...Hong may hold some of the cards, but the situation is a little bit more complicated than before....

I wonder what would've happened if Bu Jigwang never died in the first place Then Li Kaigu(or Bu something) and Shin Hong would be fighting for Goguryeo, not the Khitans.

Perhaps Hong has already been whispering in Li Kaigu's ear. . .it was strange how Kaigu challenged his "own" son to a duel (I thought that was against custom), and then out of the blue he starts seeing DJY instead of Goem, and starts doing his Elvis Extreme face. (I thought that was some pretty neat camera work, BTW. The flashing back and forth between DJY and Goem was really fun to watch). Of course, Kaigu already knows that Goem isn't really his son, but he'd buried that in the back of his mind, so to speak. Now, all of a sudden, he vicously turns on Goem mid-battle like nobody's business. What brought that on? And why didn't Chulin open her mouth and screech "Stop!"? I found it hard to believe that she would've allowed the battle to progress so far!

He cracked Geom's wooden sword and hit him in the stomach so he was thrown onto a fence-sheesh, that's too brutal for a test match! How could Chulin just watch? Unless she thought she'd distract Geom from defending his life if she shouted. If Geom turned his head to listen, Li would kill him. I hope she beats Li with an iron pot later.

The Khitans do not necessarily go by blood succession....When King Jinzhong dies, the tribal elders will go around and elect a new king....Sun Wanrong is pretty much the logical choice since he is the King's brother-in-law.....Chulin and Geom would be in consideration for obvious reasons because of blood ties, but that is not the deciding factor, apparently.....But the death of the Khitan king could also set off a conflict over succession between tribal leaders that we are not aware of....

IMHO, Li Kaigu started seeing DJY while fighting Geom thanks to Shin Hong. Not long before the sword fight, SH was questioning Geom's parentage thus putting things into LK's mind.
