Actually we have met a few of the executives from KBS America. They are all very interested in what their viewing audience thinks. Their CEO, Phillip Eun, is a genuinely nice man that seems to love the dramas as much as we do. It is my understanding that a few years ago, KBS decided they were going to broadcast world wide. They have worked very hard to make that happen. It is also my understanding that since they are a government entity they are more worried about spreading the culture than profits. In this Forum you can find lots of info on KBS forum.koreandramas.net/forum_41.htmlThis post is part of an e-mail I received from Mr. Eun that may give you a little insight into how much KBS cares... forum.koreandramas.net/topic_4659.html

Well for one, growth in tourism. There are tourists who visit Korea after becoming hooked on k-dramas. In many parts of the world, KBS dramas are offered on free cable station. The intention is to let audiences learn about Korea and her people. Australia, Japan and some European countries also offer a free cable station for the same purpose.

It works in Asia for a number of reasons....Similarities in ethnicity and culture are important factors, as is the fact that many of those countries where the Korean Wave has a huge presence are in close proximity to Korea. Getting to Korea from Japan, Taiwan, or China is a lot faster and cheaper than flying from say, the United States or Canada....Up until last year, I believed that Hallyu had already gained a foothold in the U.S. and was gaining new fans..... But alas, the real numbers paint a different picture.....

I would not know about Korean wave in Asia. Where are you from? I am based in New York City and I have ties with the Korean cultural community over here.
