In the middle of all the action in #95 there was that reference in the Turkic scene to their thinking about subjugating the Sogdians. I had no idea what this referred to, so I looked into it. For anybody who's interested, here are a couple of great Wikipedia entries: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sogdianaen.wikipedia.org/wiki/G%C3%B6kt%C3%BCrksGeography-wise this is getting far away from Korean territory, but it might become relevant to the storyline. Plus, if you go down to the "Second Empire" section of the second link, you see mention of the Mokchul/Muchuo Turkic leader whom we're seeing in the series now, and it even mentions his brother (who Mokchul mentioned when he parted with DJY and who hasn't been mentioned since). Lots of good stuff happening in #95; enjoyed it very much.

i wasn't disappointed by Dae JangSung....Xue has been an honorable enemy, and the two have a long history together. For Xue to die as dishonorably as that....it just isn't right.
i think there will be a showdown between the two, the kind that, if you watched Babylon 5, wold be reminiscent of G'Kar & Londo. That's pure speculation on my part, but i think that would be a good end of that story

I don't really mind that he let him go, but I remember thinking "what other soldier could defy a direct order from the Supreme Commander?" Apparently DJS is the only one who can not only defy the order of not leaving the scene without Xue's head, but also lie to his son's face that Xue wasn't there. "Honorable enemies" or not, blood should be thicker than water, and Gorguryeans should be thicker than Tangs. One other thing: I would have had Hongpei whimpering when a soldier stepped on his arm, not Xue. That would have been in better character for both of them, but I guess they want to emphasize Xue is losing his abilities. I'm glad his final roar wasn't that little whimper.

i think it worked out well...
The "playing dead" thing was Hongpei's idea, and he has had to tolerate abuse by Xue Rengui overall these years. If he was able to deal with it without exploding (including several slaps), i think he can handle a quick step on the hands.
It's been very rare that Xue Rengui has held his tongue. And whenhe has, it's been after some thought & preparation. He was tired and angry....not in the mood to be quiet.
