So it's 681 AD or about, and DJY and Sukyoung have their first born son. What were they possibly thinking naming him DAN??!! Dae Dan. Makes a nice "Pink Panther" theme song if you string enough of them together, but is that the best the writers could come up with? Somebody explain how that makes the least amount of sense. Can "Dan" even be written in Korean? In all the K Dramas I've seen so far (even the present day variety) there has *never* been a "Dan" as a character's name. I guess it could have been worse… Dae Doo Ron Ron…??

Or when the two kids were standing together, the song would be "Dae by Dae."

None of those kid's names are real. Geom and Dan are fictional characters. DJY never had a child with a Khitan woman. Real sons of DJY are Dae Mooye(the 2nd Emperor of Balhae), and Dae Moonye(who betrays Balhae and becomes a faithful servant of Tang empire)

Truth, I would have preferred not to know how DJY's real sons ended up just in case that becomes part of the plot in the TV show.

[Just FYI, the year is 696, not that it makes a difference.] I know it's the year 696. Since "Dan" is now fifteen, he must have been born in 681. Truth, thanks for confirming my wish that it was all a bad idea by these writers. I feel better now. ;D

Excellent puns everybody. I laughed and laughed. ;D And not to be cruel to the Danster, but he and his bro seem like milk toasts next to Goem. Their names are namby pamby and although they are supposedly just school boys, they just don't seem to be cut from the same cloth as DJY. Sukyoung irritated me when she made faces upon hearing the news that kid #1 went off to find his dad. What does she expect him to do---stay home by the fireside and keep her company? It is obvious that their upbringing has been totally different than that of Goem. Sukyoung seems to have raised them as young scholars, or at least that's the impression that I have. They lack poise and maturity. Gee---maybe they're not DJY's boys after all. Did Sukyoung have a friend with benefits? The boys definately take a back seat to Goem.

BD, I think we are seeing the results of children who were raised in two completely different cultures and by mothers who are polar opposites. Geom was raised by Khitans, who prize warlike attributes and fierce independence. Dan and his brother (name??) were raised by a princess who prizes scholarship, regal demeanor and Buddhist devotion. Sukyeong was nearly always mild, soft and quiet. Chulin has always been a spitfire. The difference between them had a lot to do with how DJY overlooked Sukyeong until she was the only match for him. I know nothing about yin and yang, but perhaps those two women embody the essence of that? Having said all that, I must add that the younger boys are less interesting. Maybe they develop more as time goes on. Frankly, I've been wondering where Dan is. He left to find DJY a long time ago. I'm having a lot of fun with all the puns, folks.

i forgot to tape the episode yesterday --- so did i miss a lot? Sounds like it...
And as for puns...Pastor David, a.k.a KyungDaeDoo, originally wanted his name to be something like Kyung Dae-doo-dah-doo-dah

Now, in epi. 89 (or was it 90?), "Dae Dan" appears wearing a handsome "warrior suit", complete with a helmet and a sword at his side. Since when has the young scholar known anything about handling a sword, let alone being a soldier? Is there something I missed here?

And didn't he make a report on surveillance of the Tang? How would he know enough to do it? He has no experience. Sheesh, how did he even find his father's camp by himself?
