What was the meaning of Chulin cutting off a lock of hair to send back to her father?

I took it to mean that she was cutting herself away from her old life.

Maybe she's a big Britney Spears fan!
Seriously, I think Nalbal has it right.

I thought she wanted Li Kaigu to take it back to her father as evidence that she was dead. I don't know whether or not she meant it syymbolically, but she was serious enough to threaten sending her head if he wouldn't believe her.
Cutting off your head to spite your hair… ? How does that solve anything?
I was more curious if she's expecting.

Well, it would show that she's thinking with her heart instead of her head ;D That's what i'm thinking, too... i doubt if she has any plague for her to be sick with a disease, though that would be an interesting twist as to whether she ends up being with DJY or not.

Well, remember what Chulin said Tuesday night? She was saying something of how she really had thought that she and DJY could go on like they were "forever", and how she believes that they had "something real" between them. This makes it seem as if she's breaking herself away from him--again.
