I hope I can help with the backstory, I've seen quite a few episodes, I missed the first part because there were no subtitles and I just kept changing the channel, but I haven't missed one since they started translating it. On the orders of his supperior Sir Yi, General Yi Ui Min killed the deposed emporer who was comming with his army to take his throne back. He was a decadant womanizer who seemed to drink a party a lot, while subjugating the populace, although not quite as much as the current regime. Then the central committee appears to have taken over and installed a new emporer who appears to be a clueless momma's boy. Sir Yi the leader of the central commitee ordered the slaying of the depsed emporer at the behest of the empress dowager who in return promised to make Sir Yi's daughter the consort of the crown prince (this all took place in secret so don't tell is brother, the current emporrer). There are many people in the kingdom who wish nothing more than to destroy Sir Yi and advisor Chung for the murder of the emporrer (one of these people being the leader of west capitol). The central committee wants to blame the whole thing on Yi Ui Min who is being protected by Sir Yi, and this has put him at odds with just about everybody, but these other people are not loyal to Sir Yi and Yi Ui Min is although he is being advised by this crazy old man who appeared in front of his horse one day saying he (Yi Ui Min)will one day be the emporrer himself. Like in all politics people switch sides in order to acomplish their goals, so the relationships between various people will change from episode to episode, but thus far Sir Yi and Yi Ui Min have not betrayed each others trust, even in seceret unlike the rest of these cutthroats. People keep repeating their ultimate goals throughout the various episodes and for the most part they don't change. Other than don't trust Muby!
