At the end of the eps. 2 Eun-hye was getting dragged off in one direction by the cops, And Haru (Day) was going the other way w/ the doc towards the operating room... missed the coming attractions for eps3....

Yes, episode #3 starts off with Eun-hye getting out of prison (apparently a plea deal, since she’s only served a few months of her sentence). And, during those few months, Day's been getting the experimental treatment. It doesn't seem to be a one-shot deal kind of surgery; rather it's almost a continuous process of Day getting his brain voltage-zapped several times a week.
There are a lot of fascinating religious themes in this show. Already, I think Director Heo has commented about doctors “playing God,” and later, when Heo wants to present the new-and-improved Day to her wealthy investors in a week’s time (and Dr. Park says it’s impossible, because Day’s not ready) Heo responds that “God created the world in a week, and even took one day off.”
Which suggests that, since God did it all in a week, shouldn’t Dr. Park be able to do it in a week as well?
And, in episode 3, we’ll see that although Day's intelligence has gone up dramatically, he's also become angry and now refuses to speak. Which tells us something, I suppose, about how the acquisition of knowledge also brings about a lessening of happiness. But hey, didn’t that also happen way back in the Garden of Eden, when Adam and Eve ate from the Apple of Knowledge?
So, is Dr. Park God? Or, is he actually Satan the Devil, masquerading as God?
Lots of interesting nuances to this show!

Mikey, thanks for that preview of episode 3. I can hardly wait for the weekend so I can watch it. I love how fast this storyline is moving. I just hope key scenes aren't edited out because at this pace it would be hard to catch up.

Mikey, I too see where your insight is coming from. However, this drama has a really interesting take on the usual cliched "doctor plays God" scenario. Dr. Park is certainly the devil attempting to pass of as the savior. I wonder what he'll gain by experimenting and exploiting the vulnerable feeble mind besides fame. He'll probably end up feeling guilty or of the sort, which wouldn't make him the sadistic man we characterize him to be. I'm very much into the show.

Sometimes, I have to admit, I also get myself confused by all the speculation I read on the other threads . . . ;D . . . but as I recall, yes, Day was in fact abandoned at a bus stop by his mother when he was a child. Which is why, years later, after Eun-hye had left him at a bus stop that day (don’t know if Chicago’s gotten that far yet) he was amazed that she actually came back late that night to take him back home. |
