If anything was the last straw for Ki-joon, if he has one, his mother burning the portrait of Ki-joon and In-young was just incredible. In a few episodes, we've seen his mother laying out his clothes much as a wife would do. If SM is supposed to love her son so much, why would she increase his pain by destroying that portrait on the wall? She destroyed his marriage, then tries to give In-young "hush money" as alimony. This woman has absolutely no respect for her son nor cares about his feelings as a young man. It's all about what makes her feel happy.
I keep shouting at Ki-joon to just "leave, leave" for good. Maybe after In-young becomes close to Jae-min, Ki-joon will realize that he has nothing for himself.

Girl i agree with u completely, I also find myself screaming at the t.v. telling ki joon to "gets some b**ls please get a back bone" . All that has happened is his own fault he didn't give his wife her place as his partner and he let his mother trample all over him, in-young and the whole marriage. I tell u if it was my mother in law i be making that man take me to my own place and in-young could do it because just by threatening Sm with taking her precious son and her not seeing him again u know she'll flip she would have to do whatever in-young says. But i guess is also a cultural thing. And probably the drama would have taken another turn. I hope he finds out what Sm told in-young about the surrogate mother. all hell gonna break loose ;D

What's so bad about a surrogate mother? Sun-mi was shocked at the idea and so was In-young. It would be their genes, right? They compensate a young woman to carry the embryo (or two) to term, and she gives them their baby. It's tough on the young woman, who has to take hormones first, but it's a job, kind of. Ki-joon doesn't sleep with her, it's clinical. And SM would get a grandchild. I wouldn't want the job, but some women do it.

Yeah, I guess, IY just was offended at SM for throwing her inability in her face. As if saying: "if you can't get the job done, i'll find someone who can." To IY, mabe it symbolizes that SM would've treated her as less than a person.

If memory serves, the housekeeper was told to put the wedding picture in the basement, no mention of burning it. I think the sreech just told her son she burned it so he wouldn't get it back up on the wall. I really hate to say this, but I think mama has the right idea, out of sight, out of mind. It'll be easier for sonny boy to get over it all. Her method could have been a little more fine tuned though.

Raven, maybe it's a cultural thing, but I wouldn't have spent more than a week in that house knowing that my MIL disliked me so much. In-young, being an intelligent, educated woman, fell right under the spell of SM. Actually, SM didn't like IY simply because she didn't come from a family, with money, as Hee-joo did.
If In-young's MIL had been a really sweet, kind woman, I'm sure that In-young might have considered having a surrogate mother. In-young, herself, is a very innocent, kind person who would probably bend over backwards to make others happy. I feel sorry for Ki-joon but, as long as he's a mama's boy, he'll always have to please his mother first.

I agree with Zazu. I also believe the portrait is in the basement, but SM knew that KJ would put it right back up if he could get his hands on it, which makes me believe that portrait will resurface somehow in the future and her lie about destroying it will come to light.

And KJ will keep it hidden somewhere in his office where only he can see it.. LOL, rather big though, don't know hpw he'll pull that off.

Isn't it funny how all the married couples in K-dramas have a large wedding portrait in their bedroom? It's like, Here we are! and There we are on the wall! Yup, we sure are married! Maybe they need to see themselves in their wedding outfits so they don't forget.
