Grandpa is a genuine renaissance man. He seems very well-read and I thought his latest comments about a recent "election" which took place says it all--He said something like this,"Every time there's an election there's talk of reform. What reform? They're all out of their minds."
Great Britain just concluded a raucous election with a contrite Tony Blair saying, in essence, "I heard you." The reform desired in Britain is 1. End to war 2. Illegal immigration 3. A return to public civility in the schools, on the street and in politics. I wonder what reform issues Granpa was thinking about?
Later he says to Yoonsik, "The family has been the only meaning in my life." I loved that--here is a highly successful business man who informs his eldest grandson that in the final analysis, it is his family that is the driving force for him!! I love it.
He went on to say how "people blame politics and society, but they don't lie". He also said that conscience is becoming a word in a book which "may disappear". He concluded that he expected Yoonsik to "be a good reflection of the beauty of mankind."
Whatta guy! He lives the simple but profound political idea, "Think globally act locally." Today, it seems that EVERYBODY fancies him/herself an expert in global affairs, military affairs, etc. andyet their personal lives are a mess! If more of us just lived and loved like Grandpa, this world would be so much more kinder and gentler.

That was a really nice scene. I thought he was going to pry more into his personal life, but I guess he just wanted to spend some quality time with his eldest grandson and pass on some of his wisdom.
It made me laugh when he was asking him who it was he had a crush on and he said "Come on, you can tell your grandpa." It made me laugh because my grandparents would be the last people I would be speaking to re: my love life.

I think it's pretty cool how well he knows his sister (cranky Aunt), like the scene where she, her daugthers, and Mr. Cha drove up to the grandparents during their walk and they stopped briefly to chat with each other, when the car drove away, grandpa says something like, she must've approved of Mr. Cha and Kyungwha(?) having each other.
