What is Yi Soon-Shin thinking now?

The world has still not changed, King Sonjo, and only getting worse...

In 1910 Japan successfully conquered Chosun and later during WWII parts of Ming. After WWII the Japanese were driven out of Chosun which was then occupied by American and Russian forces, which resulted in the nations division and later the agonizing Korean Conflict.

Today the country is still divided and quickly changing. All traditional values, culture, and nature are being lost to the corruption and materialism of the modern world. From the nuclear threats of North Chosun there may even be another devastating war in the near future.

So what is Yi Soon-Shin thinking now after all that has happened to his beloved Chosun...?
Were all his noble efforts... in vain?

Korea has been divided for a good portion of its history

I don’t see unification coming any time soon. Kim Jong Il is virtually a god to his people and it breeds fanaticism. because of this i doubt t here would be any body with the courage to actually mount a coup against him.

Plus if the north Korean government ever collapses, south Korean and American forces will deploy to the north to stop the flow of refugees. The Chinese I think would follow suit to prevent refugees and an American presence across the Yalu river.

Actually, a few incidents of rebellious activities in North Korea have been reported, although they are not really confirmed.

He probably is upset that Japanese got a hold of Korea again, and committed their heinous acts to the people, and that the government has continued to be filled with corrupt leaders.

I would say after our touch and go experience in militarily enfeebled Iraq, North Korea should be safe from any serious U. S. military attention for some time.

I could see both points of views. People could argue that for that time period, his efforts weren't in vain. He did save the Chosunese civilians from the barbaric actions of both the Japanese and the Chinese, and for the time, Chosun was finally in the hands of its own people. Therefore, his efforts to save Chosun were not in vain because in the end, he did accomplish that.

HOWEVER, I could see people also arguing that if you look at the broader scope in history, Yi Soon Shin's efforts were very much in vain. Think about it: the Japanese eventually DID conquer Chosun, they DID hold the land for almost half a century, and there are STILL corrupt political officials in both the North and the South, and the nation IS STILL divided. So, in the end, Yi Soon-Shin did achieve many great things, but he was not able to stop the Japanese from conquering his beloved Chosun in the future.

Personally, I believe that Yi Soon-Shin's efforts were not in vain. I think if Yi Soon-Shin had not existed, or if he got discouraged to easily, Korea and maybe, half of China, might not exist. I posted this in one of my posts, and I'm posting it again. I sincerely believe that had it not been for Yi Soon-Shin and his great turtle ships, Japan might be a larger nation, and maybe, half of China might not be known as China. It would have changed not only Korea's history, but global history as well.
