I vote the cat as the funiest sound effect in IYSS so far. Especially when Wakizaka threw it after the chain when up. Do they have "No animals were harmed during the making of this historical drama" notices in Korea? What would this show be without Wakizaka's hammy ranting and raving. Especially when he realized that YSS had him. I kind of felt sorry for Dodo.
This was a great episode but I miss seeing YSS's old crew commanding the ships. For a man in his 50's YSS was handy with a sword. I almost wanted to see him carry out his threat on the cowardly commander.
Given the conditions, setting anchor was a good tactic. I was suprised to see the the anchors looked wooden. Were they?
Here's hoping they bring the cat back for the next battle.

I read here, I think in Florel's post that Dodo was seriously injured (haha). is this true? also, was Yi's fleet supposed to get flanked?
poor cat. it got thrown twice because of that bad meanie Wakizaka!
yes, Admiral Yi was very pissed in this ep. The memories of his lost men and his vow to them evoked his inner vigor and unleashed it on Gurujima and his proud navy.
It was sad to see Admiral Yi's old soldier/new lieutenant Young Gap die. too many died..
our poor admiral and the men on his flagship charged the enemy alone while the other 12 cowered away for a while.
But wow, what a battle.

In real life, I read that Yi beheaded one of his oarsmen when the crew looked like they would start to retreat, this knocked them into line. As for the other 12, I dont know, I thought that this act, and the raising of the head for all to see set every body straight.

Throughout Korean history, heroes appeared out of nowhere when the nation was faced with crisis.
During Go-gu-ryu Baek-jae, and Shil-la era, it was Eul-gi-moon-duk, Yun-gae-so-moon, Kim yoo-shin, and Geun-cho-go-wang.
During Koryu era, it was Kang gam-chan, Suh-hee, entire people of Koryu who fought against the invading Mongols,
During Chosen era, you have Yee Soon-shin, Kwon Yul, Chun Bong-jun and milions of farmers and peasants.
During Modern era, you have Kim Gu, An Joon-geun, An Chang-ho, Yoon Bong-gil, Kim Joa-jin, and Hong Bum-suk and lastly controversial Park Jung-hee.
My personal favorites are YSS and Kim Gu though
Who are your greatest heroes in Korean history?

I vote the cat as the funiest sound effect in IYSS so far. Guitarist steven Vai used a cats scream in on of his musical recordings once. The cat was in heat and he wanted to relieve the problem because the cat was acting crazy. Especially if steve had company over. On the advice of a Vet,he helped his cat solve the problm. But not before having one friend record the cats wild calls. He said afterwards the cat was quiet for weeks.

regarding anchors. both Korean and Japanese used wood and stone achors at that time. Anchors were made of two parts a wooden frame and a large rectangular stone mounted on it.

IMO the cat thing was a little bit over the top.
And I do think episode 96 had the most brutal naval battle scenes to date. We see a lot more of "leap, stab, twist" swordplay, clotheslining, strangulation, etc. And some poor slob got impaled with an iron sickle in a place where no man would want to be hit. Ouch. I had mixed feelings about the way earlier battle scenes were "sanitized" in the way of old John Wayne movies, etc. In comparison Ep. 96 was a bit shocking.

This was a great episode but I miss seeing YSS's old crew commanding the ships. For a man in his 50's YSS was handy with a sword. I almost wanted to see him carry out his threat on the cowardly commander. I was so upset to see the Commanders afraid to fight the Japanese. YSS's old crew would've fought to the end for him, and their country. The other guys were true hardcore warriors. I especially miss Kim Wan, I grew to like him throughout the series and especially in the past episodes where he was more serious and was really a warrior. Had YSS had his other men, they would've been right by his side fighting the enemy. Did YSS really fight off the Japanese like that? Man it was amazing to see him fighting. I just love the way the actor portrays YSS. I think the guy is a a great actor, you can tell how he feels just by looking in his eyes. The eyes tell it all. I thought this was a pretty amazing episode and I just find it so unbelievable to know that it is based on a true story and that YSS indeed defeated the Japanese with only 13 ships. That is just amazing.

This was a great episode but I miss seeing YSS's old crew commanding the ships. I missed his old crew so much too and, like Alexa said, it was upsetting to see some of the new commanders hesitant to fight and not believing in YSS's plan.

I just love the way the actor portrays YSS. I think the guy is a a great actor, you can tell how he feels just by looking in his eyes. Oh yes, so true. When I saw the very first episodes I thought, "My, he does stare a lot," but now after watching his life story from when he was child and seeing all he went through, and so knowing him better, I see in his silent face and still eyes much thought and feeling. He's like Ralph Fiennes in conveying emotion with little facial movement. The eyes!

YES BUT (and I made a joking reference to his "telepathic powers" in a previous post) I sometimes wish, instead of those voiceovers, they would JUST SAY THE LINES. There is entirely too much nodding and staring in this show. But that's one of my few criticisms; I don't know if that's because of the direction or the script (that is, did the writers write it that way or did the director decide to film it that way). I just find it irritating.

Thanks Bo. I was going to make a snarky comment but then I figured that I would let a moderator handle it. I was referencing the song not the disease. All I wanted was an obscure feline reference for my thread title. Maybe I should have picked Julie Newmar. ShawnScope, Thanks for the info on the anchors. I knew they couldn’t be wood. I guess I just didn’t see the stone. Oh yes, so true. When I saw the very first episodes I thought, "My, he does stare a lot," but now after watching his life story from when he was child and seeing all he went through, and so knowing him better, I see in his silent face and still eyes much thought and feeling. When I saw the first episode I found YSS’s silent stare off-putting. I didn’t start watching again until a few episodes later when he was a boy. What a difference seeing him in battle after watching his whole career. I can’t wait to see that first episode again!
