since KBS has a low budget isnt there a good possibility that IYSS isnt going to come out on DVD.

I doubt that
If the show is popular then they will be looking to make a profit

DVD distribution of a drama series is not widely practiced in Korea, as most people opt for online pay-per-views instead.
Since there is no chance of DVD sales in Japan, you will have to settle for Chinese subtitle editions from Hong Kong or Taiwan instead.

But isn't Kimchee755 worrying about budget?

But isn't Kimchee755 worrying about budget? Yes, you're right, donilpark. The state-run media services can take a real beating. I remember the wholesale dismanteling of the venerable BBC radio. The overseas services were put under the domestic BBC tv/radio and it was effectively destroyed. Anything left today is a shadow of its former self. And BBC tv is also taking a major hit. It's hard to produce quality programming like IYSS if the monies aren't there. My older sister worked for BBC tv in London for awhile and its the same problems there. The costs of homeland security and war are taking a toll in not-so-jolly old England. I hope KBC can pull it together.

Hi all, I know for sure that my video store nowadays record their videos from DVDs! As for IYSS, sometimes there's a pause in the video but I noticed it doesn't come from the video itself but from the original dvd they recorded from. lol

A good news for IYSS addicts ! Oh, guys, IYSS will be available on DVD ! I was thinking KBS had no plan to release IYSS on DVD. But, today I read a news from Korea, that KBS will make DVDs of IYSS ! IYSS on DVD (article in Korean)[Florel, you had an extra "]" in your link, so that's why it didn't work; I fixed it; your full address wasn't working because of "technical difficulties" - Bo] According to a Korean Newspaper, it will be an abbreviated version deleting boring parts. It will be divided into two seasons. Each season will contain 7 DVDs (so 14 DVDs in total) and will be released in November and in December 2005. I don't know if they will make DVDs of Region 1 with English subtitles. Korea is in Region 3. If they will not make another version for Region 2 (Japan, Europe), I have to think if I would change my DVD player for multiple regions. In that case, I also would be able to view DJG.

Lots of DVD players have secret "region hack" codes, including my personal favorite, the Philips DVP642. I posted a link and some info in this thread: thread linkSo even if the IYSS DVDs are Region 3, many of us will be able to play them with our existing players. That still leaves the question about subtitles, and exactly what KBS considers to be the "boring parts."

Thanks, Daemado, for the info. Now it remains to me the problem of pal/secam system. Regarding subtitles, I guess KBS can easily insert them if they are not lazy. AFAIK, KBS also aired IYSS on satellite with English subtitles in several important foreign cities (LA, Paris, etc.). I couldn't view it on TV because I don't have a dish. And the "boring parts"... What's your opinion about "editable" parts ? 1. Episodes 1-4 which will be repeated in Ep. 99-104. 2. YSS's fictional youth (Ep. 5-6). 3. YSS in merchant adventure and in military academy (Ep. 7-16). 4. YSS in the potter's village of Gonyang (Ep. 17-24) - but what would happen if they cut out Jang-pyung (Kohei) who will play an important role in the Battle of Hansando ? 5. Some scenes in Chosan period before the Battle of Nokdune Island (Ep. 26-32). 6. Chun-Su's long adventure in Ep. 40's and 50's. 6. The court conflicts between the Easterners and the Westerners and repetitive scenes of Yun Du-Su conspiring against Yu Sung-Ryong and against YSS in Ep. 40's. 7. Samurais' over-actions, notably the "dress rehearsal" scene in Ep. 54 !
