You might also say turtle ship is a natural development of Koren ships, rather than a singular invention. The idea of turtle ship comes from Koryo warships. They had similar structure, with metal heads to ram into the enemy vessel. Also, the first ever in the history to carry cannons on board were Koryo warships. The idea of spikes to prevent the enemy from boarding was also present in Koryo warship called 'Kwaseon', meaning 'Spear ship.' And of course, the oars of turtle ship is called Korean oar, so it's also something that's been in use for a long time, not to mention the flat bottom. All these elements ran through the natural course of development and contributed to result in turtle ship. So, it is Na Daeyong and to the lesser degree, Yi Sunshin, who should get credit for turtle ship, but the basic idea of turtle ship has been there for a long time.
