No. Turtleship wasn't armored. Yi Soon Shin invented nothing. He just used whatever was available to him.

here is short description of turtle ship in wikepeida. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turtle_shipI think Na Dae Yong is actually credited for turtle ship. Brilliance of General Yee is not the invention of turtle ship but recognize the need of turtle ship and use that in the battle. There was a lot of resource required to build turtle ship. If general decides that it is not necessary to build that kind of ship, it would not be made. period. remember Admirial Yee built his navy within a year of time period before the war. In the drama, you can see the difference between Won-kyun's navy and Admiral Lee's navy. General Yee clearly knew that Jo-sun navy had superior fire power in the sea and they have to use that in the battle. Every battles he fought was based on information gathering and strategy. He always made and fought in the best possible situation to win battle. The sad thing is all these superior fire power came from several generation ago. There is a reason why we korean call sae-jong the great king(1397 - 1450). King knew the importance of fire power and has detailed records how these weapons to be developed in that period. That is the basis how general Yee had superior fire power against Japan navy. What a difference one good leader(either general or king) could make. You would think Yee dynasty learned lesson after 7 year war. Alas! So be careful who you select as your leader.  |

The turtle ship had iron spikes at the very least, as to iron plating, we'll have to wait and see when one is eventually found.
