People, please tell me I'm not the only one who felt bad for Kohei in that...u kno....I think episode 73? Oh man...I was crying. Kohei was my favorite character. I mean, he was a traitor to the Chosunese, but he eventually realized his mistake, and he knew that he had to do the right thing-no matter WHAT this time. Awww....I'm gonna miss him. God...it's so aggravating...I only get to watch this show two times a week, and they leave me on the edge of my seat...begging for more....*sigh*

I feel bad for poor Kohei, but I have to be a bit critical of the filming around this character. What I mean by that is, in one episode he's angrily, tearfully saying how Chosun clay doesn't work for him - comparing that then to how "Japanese" he felt he had become. There was even a scene of him standing by the shore and praying to his father for forgiveness, because he didn't think he could endure the effort to "live as a Korean again". And he thought of his wife and children at his home in Japan. I love misunderstood, conflicted characters, so I was excited by this character's new involvement in the current plot. But then the next time we see Kohei, he's suddenly whispering and conspiring with the other potter, Eun Woo, to sneak information to Yi Soon Shin. We even see a flashback of when Kohei took great risks and visited Yi himself. I know I'm being critical, but I was very disappointed with how that played out. What was the point then of developing these characters when the filming was going to focus on the progress of the war and tactics? They made an effort to show how conflicted Kohei was, so why not show in more detail how he decided to return to his Korean roots, as it were, instead of putting it on the back burner. The flashback scene made me a bit angry. I would have preferred to see that happen as it happened. I would have liked to see Yi's initial reaction to see Jang Pyung again, and I kept hoping to see Nalbal meet Jang Pyung now. After all, they showed Kohei's memories of his young potter-self with child-Nalbal, and both came from the same town and suffered the same losses. I would have liked to see how Nalbal reacted to seeing him alive and well - and Japanese. It would have made a very intense and emotional moment for everyone. It's the characters that make this series so appealing for me, and lately I've been feeling that the characterizations are no longer in the spotlight. It's a mite frustrating. But still, I do like and empathize with Kohei and am excited for next weekends episodes. ~ Heather www.isotype-newtype.com

I wonder about the daughter Wakizaka fathered who is now living with YSS's wife- but that has no military importance so I guess we'll never know. Maybe it's fiction anyway. Still,I agree, it's the personal aspects that are so moving. Like the way the 2 officers who wanted YSS's downfall now are helping with all their hearts.

Maybe I missed the boat but the "flashback" you referred to,I saw as something that Kohei Imagined, as opposed to something that actually happened. He was thinking about how a reunion might be--it never actually happened. What do others think?

Actually, no...because remember in one episode, where YSS realizes that the note might be an ambush, and he says that he's afraid Kohei got hurt? Yeah, I see your point Heather. I thought I missed an episode, so I just assumed that that flashback actually happened. First of all, I was apparently wrong cuz we were still on track, so I got kinda confused. To me, that flashback seemed like it actually happened. Yeah, it is kinda annoying how they did that. What makes Kohei interesting is the conflict he has within himself about his identity, and by leaving the conflict out, it makes it seem like there was none to begin with, which does piss me off.
