How awesome is YSS?! I can't believe he was willing to put his life on the line so they wouldn't abolish the navy. which in fact he knew he would be trading his life for the lives of the people of the country. I loved the scene where YSS is on his horse by the ocean and all the other commanders come riding by and they tell him that they will follow him even to death. Okay I have to admit I had to fight back some tears in this scene. It was just so touching to see that they have grown to respect and care for YSS and his beliefs so much that they were willing to risk it all also. What really surprised me was Commander Yi (I think thats his name, guy in charge of the finances) He seemed to be the most upset about the whole abolishment of the Navy. There were a few scenes where I thought he didn't really care for YSS, but I guess I was wrong. It was pretty cool the way he was so angry and upset and wishing that YSS would do something about it. Oh and what is up with the snitch? I can't believe he was going over to Commander Won's and giving him information. Though I knew he looked sneaky, especially because he seems to adore Commander Won. I liked the scene where YSS is talking to one of his lieutanants and he tells him never to draw a sword on his own (referring to the snitch). Now if that were me I would've said "Kill the traitor." Okay so the Japanese are getting ready to war against the Koreans. So I'm looking forward to the battle scenes

The show is finally beginning! But, I still cannot get over the fact that they portray the Japanese to be as cruel as Dracula, and as one dimensional as a piece of cardboard.

Finally the battles begin. I think they did a good job with some of the Japanese main characters. Todo and the Master Rikyu is a great example because we see someone in their camp that is not underestimating the opponent unlike the others. The role of Konishi is good also because he's battling his religion and the order of his leader. I hate how they portray Wakizaka and Kiyomasa because they could've done a better job instead of making them blood-thirsty animals in my opinion. Japanese characters are not the only one flat characters in this series. Many of the Korean naval soldiers are being stereotyped as being goofballs. They always have that same facial expression like their clueless, even I get sick of it sometimes. Maybe I'm expecting too much because to this day I'm still comparing this series to AOW. I wanted to know so much more to the characters because the overall storyline is 1000x times better than AOW or any drama on right now. We have 3 different nations involved in a war where one nation wants to conquer the other 2, another nation saving their nation from invasion, and the other strategizing on how to play them both in order to achieve their goals. Just had to get that off my chest. But enough about the bad parts this saturday is the day that all hell break loose. ;D

Complain to Louis Frois (1532~97) Frois was a Portuguese missionary sent by the Roman Catholic church. He had lived in Japan for about 30 years and wrote Historia de Japam (History of Japan). I think the Japanese men that figure in this drama are based on the book.
