You can only laugh at episodes like that. Everything was just so hilarious that I didn't even bother watching everthing. When did muskets fire 10 shots without reloading? ha! The talk about calvary beating firearms was just laughable and the "dress rehearsal" exercise had me on the floor. LOL!!!
Only 2 more episodes until the action begins and all this dragging can stop.

um let's see, Aging Warrior: turtle ship overturned, one of the young rowers died (one of those two who looked liked like twins), chief rower was mad that the doctor (mapmaker's daughter) couldn't save him, chief rower beat Lt. Na who was distraught beyond words, "archfiend son" put an end to the beating
Shin Lip, I believe, took his baton to YSS's stomach and yelled at him and pledged he would notify the king of the atrocity, a stunned upset YSS said nothing
he who is called monkey man prodded the the officer he always hangs with (the cannon driller) to defend YSS to Won Kyun so YSS wouldn't be denounced by king, Won Kyun refuses to do so
YSS walks the ground hearing the cooking ladies grieve and seeing broken-boned soldiers in agony as dr. tries to set their legs
YSS announes plan for new turtle ship, shocks everyone, asks for Lt. Na, he disappeared to a "geisha" house and is drunk, YSS goes to his quarters, sees turtle model smashed, sign on wall says something like "I built a ship that killed people"
YSS drags him out of "geisha" house and throws him kicking and screaming into the water, YSS punches him, says to stand up and remember, that they owe it to the dead soldiers (some who are still missing, lost to the ocean) to continue their work and defend Korea or they'll be even more deaths when the Japaese come, YSS officers watch, say he's crazy, Constable Kwan agrees he is crazy (in exasperation) and what can one do (but go along with him)
last scene shows YSS, Nalbal, Na, and that soldier who hangs with him transporting supplies to begin work on new turtle ship, they kid about their strength and getting older etc before stopping before the officers, who much to YSS and Na's delight state that the soldiers have already got done the pre-production work for the new ship, monkey man gentle "kids" to YSS saying somethng like "you know you are crazy, don't you?"
mounted horsemen arrive, YSS to recieve royal command: Navy being absorbed by army!
sorry for not remembering character names, hope my info was accurate, please anyone feel free to correct or add on
oh yeah, japanese had captured Chosun hostages who they used as living targets for musket practice, the hostages were dressed in royal court clothing I believe, women there too, they were told they would be released if they dodged the bullets, they were all massacred.

Thanks Eowyn! A great summary and the descriptive names work better for me than the actual names.
Was the cannon captain (Chung?) pissed that Won Kyun wouldn't listen to him?

Skinz. Why don't you think the Korean hostages stood all night sewing the Chosun royal clothes before they became the living targets for musket practice? Anyway, I don't like ep. 54 either. (Ep. 53 was far better)

The Buddhist guy with the flowerpot hat sewed most of them. That's why he looked so distraught. All that work, ruined. The Baldy Twins helped a little, but they skipped out on the Flowerpot guy, so he had to do most of it. I hear he got some clothes 1/2 price at ChunSuMart.

Was the cannon captain (Chung?) pissed that Won Kyun wouldn't listen to him? I'm glad you liked my summary, A.W. And there's something comforting to me about using old AOW nick-names! Um, I think he just sat there with an expression of "well, he's not going to change his mind, I see."

When did muskets fire 10 shots without reloading? ha! You mean when the Japanese soldiers fired a sort of salute, right? Consternation spread over my face as I thought "Is this for real?" And the shogun kept evil crazy laughing, with those teeth of his. ps - ever notice that the shogun (is this the correct term?) is always looking down? Doesn't that mess up his neck? I think the actor who plays him conveys quite a character.

ps - ever notice that the shogun (is this the correct term?) Actually, Toyotomi never held the title shogun because the descendant of the Ashikaga clan (The powerful family before the civil war in Japan) was still alive. However, he did take the title Kampaku and later Taika

hmm, looks like i might be in the minority but i liked this episode. i did not like that the turtle ship sank. but i did like the way the characters reacted to it. lt na going off on a drunken binge, yss insisting that they build another ship, tracking down lt na, and tossing him in the ocean. i thought what he said to him about not letting the deaths of soldiers having been for nothing....that whole scene was very touching. the scene i liked best, however, was when yss, lt na, nalbal and the other soldier were walking up with the huge log and were met by the officers. when they said they thought yss was crazy, and they were going to be crazy too, it brought tears to my eyes. you knew at that point, that he had their hearts and their loyalty. but skinz, i also agree that the musket firing and the clothes for the hostages was a bit much, just a wee bit.

hmm, looks like i might be in the minority but i liked this episode. I liked the episode also, luv. I've been enjoying the past few episodes very much, seeing all the comraderie at the base. I like the cook "Mama" and all the rowers and archers, and the mapmaker's daughter (now doctor).

Yes, even though sometimes a few mistakes made me sad, actually I like this drama and all the characters in it.

This scene was touching. I guess YSS is all about tough love! I liked when he told Lt. Na that if they didn't build another ship there would be even more deaths, probably hundreds of thousands, basically saying that the death of the soldiers would be in vain. It's awesome to see that YSS doesn't give up and that he keeps on moving forward. Even though he is hurting for the death of his soldiers he realizes that he has to keep going and defend his country. That is just awesome ;D And what was up with the Japanese using live targets? That was just crazy. I couldn't believe that they would do something like that. Is this based on true events? EOWYN, thanks for the summary. I taped this episode last night, and got home halfway through the show. But when I looked at my vcr, the tape was out. I don't know what the heck is wrong with it, but this is the third time it does this. I try to record something and the vcr spits the tape right back out. So I only got to see the last 1/2 hour of this episode.

EOWYN, thanks for the summary. I taped this episode last night, and got home halfway through the show. But when I looked at my vcr, the tape was out. So I only got to see the last 1/2 hour of this episode. I'm glad the summary was there for you, Alexa. Sounds like the time for a new vcr (so sorry to say). I've had similiar problems with mine as well. First make sure your time is set properly and that the tape looks as if nothing is wrong with it. Also, you might want to buy a tape to clean the heads. You can also bring it somewhere to get looked at for repair. I ended up buying a new vcr (around $60). Beware: it could go back to working again, but then mess up again down the road. Good luck.
