The cannon explosion wasn't the issue. The two soldiers incited desertion.

1. That explosion never happened in history, like 90% of stuffs you see on screen. 2. Therefore Yi Soon Shin never executed those two soldiers. 3. It was the script writer who decided to execute those two soldiers to make Yi Soon Shin a meanie and a heartless bastard. 4. Afterall, those two is nothing compared to hundreds who drowned with Turtle Ship No. 1.

According to my mom, THE TURTLE SHIP NEVER SANK. Why are they tainting his greatness?
Ehem, this is going to be a passionate speech about the admiral.
I'm honored to be a Korean and proud to have some like Yi Soon Shin in our history.
No one in the world matches his greatness.
His great diligence, dedication, brilliance, and his love for his country are just some qualities that make him the greatest military leader in my opinion.
His naval record:
23-0. Undefeated.
Despite the odds against thousands of equipped Japanese soldiers, Yi Soon Shin and his men vanquiahed them all and probably saved Korea from getting screwed over by the Japanese.
My mom says the Turtle ship never sank, but then why the hell are the directors adding this BS to the drama? They're tainting his greatness. They better make his victories at sea glorious and beautiful ;/.
You know what else irritates me? The king at that time. King Son Jo. He didn't know his head from his butt.
He condemned Yi Soon Shin to torture and imprisonment and even almost execution because he didn't act on FALSE intelligence that the Japanese were invading in a dangerous rocky coast. Apparently, the king couldn't tell a true loyal and great warrior.
AND EVEN AFTER BEING DEMOTED from an Admiral to a COMMON SOLDIER, Yi Soon Shin held no disdain for the king, and went about his duties like it never happened. And only after Won Kyun got beheaded by the Japs after losing NEARLY THE ENTIRE NAVY, the King reinstalled Yi Soon Shin and he went back to work without a protest for the king making a stupid mistake and immediately went back to work.
What was left of the navy?
ONLY 120 MEN AND LIKE A DOZEN DAMAGED SHIPS. BUT YOU KNOW WHAT HE DID? This is one of the greatest naval battles ever--- he defeated a fleet TEN TIMES HIS SIZE. He won the battle against 133 Japanese ships with just 12 ships and 120 men.
HE IS ONE OF THE MANLIEST OF MEN.
The politicians, the king, were busy fighting for power that would mean SH&t if the Japanese invaded.

Trepasser, you need to read Admiral Yi's war diary. According to his diary, YSS executed many, many Chosun soldiers because they broke the military rule. Even though the cannon explosion in the show is a fiction created by the writer, real YSS will do the same thing to deal with such an incident. That is what the military leader shoud do.

Yes, I have to agree. The rebellion of military personnel is a capital offense, in general. He had to have a severe penalty. It's still sad--very Captain Bligh-like. Still, this was the rule.

23-0. Undefeated. Despite the odds against thousands of equipped Japanese soldiers, Yi Soon Shin and his men vanquiahed them all and probably saved Korea from getting screwed over by the Japanese. Sadly, Korea was still screwed over during the first invasion because the Japanese invaded Kyongsang province first which wasn't under YSS's jurisdiction. Won Kyun misjudged the first Japanese vessels to be transport vessels and the other admiral, Pak Hong, just fled the scene. YSS had his fleet on alert but he couldn't do anything to prevent 160 thousand Japanese troops from landing. And after Busan fell all the other fortresses up to Hanyang (Seoul) fell like dominos within a month. By the time Konishi marched up into Seoul, the city was already desserted.
