Yoon Du Su and Jung Chul was banished because they were pursuing the idea of selecting the crown prince and the new heir when the King wasn't old yet. By electing a new heir so early in a king reign, showed they had corrupt motivation. In this process, the King favor went to the Easterners rather than the Westerners and made the Easterners more powerful.
Yoon Du Du does come back to power. How? Just continue to watch.
Won Kyun is selected to become the Right Naval Commander. How? continue to watch.

... By electing a new heir so early in a king reign, showed they had corrupt motivation. ... Yes, but, didn't the queen (or was it that bad concubine) say that it's normal to designate an heir during times of national distress, because it calms the fears of the people? That sounded reasonable to me. Of course, in this show, Chosun isn't exactly Reasonableland. Bo

Although King Sunjo was a member of royal family, he was not a direct descendant of royal lineage. He was put on the throne because previous king(Myung Jong) didn't have a son. That made him feel quite insecure about his throne(proper lineage was indeed very important at that time : , so he seeked every possible measures to strengthen his royal authority. Maintaining tension & balance between Easterners and Westerners was one of the method; he didn't want neither of them become too strong and take full control of the court. Yoon and Jung were just two of the political victims during that process. (crown prince issue was used for justification.) Later on, he will hate Yi Soon-Shin more than anybody for same reason. He thought such a national hero would become a threat to his authority. (like Commodus hates Maximus in the movie 'Gladiator')
