Its just covering up space with no real importance to the story. Sure Hong was a spy for the japanese and it was good for some laughs for Mujik antics, but her service isn't necessary to the japanese anymore (which was the link for their events to the happenings later on). We should only concentrate on the political events, Yi Soon Shin events, Won Kyun events, the Japanese events, and the Ming events.

It does now seem like a divergent storyline.

Hello, I agree, I'm pretty sick of the gruesome twosome. Chun su is an irritating character and Mujik is almost as bad. They're dull, boring and unless they're going to be doing something unexpected in upcoming episodes, they don't move the storyline forward one iota. I wish there were more explanation of the interactions between the court ministers, the king and the military. Though I appreciate all the fine work that goes into subtitling the show into English, I suspect that there are subtle political intrigues that are easily understandable to a native Korean speaker, but 'lost in translation' when written into English on the bottom of a tv screen. Luckily, I've picked up a lot of really good information from the people on this board and the internet - the conflict between the Easterners and the Westerners, the explanation for King Sonjo's paranoia about his throne, etc. etc. Yi Soon Shin is still the highlight of my television week.

Even though I'm a loyal Chun su fan I have to agree. The writers are flailing a bit maybe it's because they had to drop the Mijin Jr. storyline. The threesome are interesting when they are making life hard for YSS. Only Mujik is sympathetic. But he is portrayed as a simple naif now, which is not how he started out. Chun Su is just too much a one note character. Even his waking from possible death and calling out for his money didn't bring much of a chuckle. AOW's Monkeyman did it better.
At least the writers seem to have dropped the scenes where YSS plays unfair head games with the commanders serving under him. It was a lazy way for the writers to get some tension between YSS and his subordinates and it made YSS come off as a poor leader. He needed a good slap upside the head. The scene where Constable Kwan told him that the enemy would win because there is only one commander in Left Cholla Navy made my day. YSS is beginning to lead rather than ambush his men.
They did a much better job when YSS was a commander against the Jurchens. They really made us care for the men in the camp (before they killed many of them off). I hope they get back to that better characterization now.

I agree, I always thought Chun Su and Mujik were annoying from the beginning when they first met the young fictional YSS at his village. YSS was a nobleman, he would have nothing to do with a smelly whining peasant like Chun Su. He’s more annoying than “Monkey Man” aka Advisor Yi in Age of Warriors or one of Admiral YSS’s commanders, the guy who’s a friggin lazy turd whom I call “Commander Ratman”. However, they probably already finished production of the series and South Korea is probably almost done with the series. So I doubt they’re going to cut them out. This is bad writing on the writers part. I hope Mijin Jr. doesn’t come back in the story. Let’s concentrate on the political intrigue, massive land battles like in Shogun Total War, and massive sea battles like in Age of Sail or Sea Dogs.

Wow, that's harsh. I liked Monkeyman Yi. Chun Su was interesting for a while, but now I find myself dismayed to see him return from the edge of his doom with regularity. He should eat money and choke himself to a fitting end.

I have to agree, though, that I'm tired of seeing Chun-su and I wish he'd get his comeuppance. Bo

Don’t get me wrong. I thought Advisor Yi was comical like General Yeosol (Kyung Dae Sung’s cousin), Superior General Cho Wong Jung from the Central Committee and his cronies or lazy Commander Ratman from Admiral YSS’s staff officers. But I really can’t stand Chun Su and Mujik no offense to anyone. They’re totally different and just annoying. They’re not even comically funny. What’s the point of keeping Chun Su? They’re just filling up more air time because the writers don’t know what else to write. Real Shinobis or spies like Akai Sama aka “Hong” would be more inconspicuous if they want to survey the land, cities, and beaches undisturbed. If that Japanese Buddhist monk refer to her as Akai Sama, she must be a female Samurai and she definitely wouldn’t hang around with some Chosun peasants or even Japanese peasants.

So, doesn't that mean she'd have some training in self-defense? Would a couple of Chun-su's hired thugs even have a chance with her? Bo

Last I saw, she was still a prisoner and Chun-su had tied up Mu-jik, too. I got the feeling Chun-su was setting her up to escape with Mu-jik, but that's probably crazy romanticism. I guess I'll see that next. Bo

From what I saw what happened in the rice storage room, I wouldn’t worry too much about Chun Su now. That’s why I edited my earlier post. I didn’t want to give a spoiler.

Actually, I would like to see a spin-off series featuring them. ;D Chun-Su and Mujik go to Fort Castle. The Chun-Su and Mujik Comedy Hour. Chun-Su, The Legenday Journeys.
Heh. Like many of you, I'm starting to grow tired of this undynamic duo. The comic relief was fun while it lasted. However, I think I've finally had enough of him. After Tuesday's episode, you have to wonder, did Chun-Su finally get the point?
