Okay, I'm not gonna say anything yet. I just want to start this thread since nobody took initiative. I'm kinda too impatient and I wish you chicagoians and others would soon catch up enough so we can get the discussion rolling. Episodes 57-58 although greeeat episodes are too far away to have more people join in.

I don't think it's a spoiler to say that Chun-Su is a nasty bozo.

well as long as we let people know there are spoilers and the episode #, we can go ahead and discuss, and you did that.
i think mijik said it best when he told chun su that he was worse than a pig. how can this man live with himself, or sleep at night, etc? what scum he has become.
and as for YSS....how can you not love, admire, respect and adore this man? he goes beyond extraordinary....i am so enamored with him. kim myoung-min is doing such a wonderful portrayal. sighs. ;D

When the new shipbuilding commander (I don't know his name so I'll call him Archfiend Jr.) had his men walk out on him, I couldn't help but think that we were watching the Peter Principle in action. Promoting a man that is great at his job to a position where he isn't suited. Classic management mistake.
When he referred to those men as uncle, was he just using a term of respect for older men to whom he isn't related? Also when the minister and the prince both called the Queen something that sounded like “mama”. For the minister is was translated as “your majesty” (or a similar title) for the prince it was translated as mother. Was it the same word? Does it literally mean mother but also used as a term of respect for older woman to whom one is not related?
Poor Won Kyun. He's going to go nuts running the six camps.
It looks like the crazy ship designer will be a fun character. He's a martial artist in real life? I guess his commander (what should we call him “Alternate-YSS”?) is going to hit the roof in the next episode. The troops wont be ready for training and the main YSS is about to promote the guy. It's time for a YSS vs. YSS showdown.

I guess you missed the part where he goes back to them and pleas for their return. Well, YSS had to use what was available at the time and be creative at the same time. The new ship commander isnt given the resposibilties as a military commander per se. The other commanders didnt understand that for practical reasons he was given the new uniform in order to have authority over the builders and to get the work done. I bet if there were another uniform that sybolized military management and ship building I think YSS would have bestowed that instead of the blue one.

They're his real uncles. I guess you missed the part where he goes back to them and pleas for their return. I think they are not related to Su-Chang (Archfiend Jr). If they were his real uncles, Su-Chang might have called them as "Samchon" or "Sukbunim". If Su-Chang is not their relative, he may call them as "Ajossi" or "Aje" ("Ajedeul" in the plural). I can call you as "Moreshige Aje" or "Moreshige Ajossi", but never as "Moreshige Samchon". ;D AW : about appellation of the queen A queen is addressed as "Jungjeon Mama" by her subjects and as "Oma Mama (literally signifying Mother Majesty)" by princes and princesses. A king is referred as "Aba Mama" by his children.

In Korean language, "don" signifies "money". Also the same pronunciation "don" can designate "pig" in Hanja letter. ;D The spy episodes show how clever Admiral YSS is. He knows how to "recycle" Japanese spies. He used them for his soldiers' training project, while the commander of Chunsu's area beheaded the captured spy Kimura (Hong's colleague).

Chun Su can go fall off a boat and get owned by jelly fish I hate hong too for conspiring with them Japanese but Chun Su sold arrows to the enemy...the same arrows that pierced Chosunese soldiers... The Lieutenant's name is Na Dae Yong and he's the guy who buiilds the kobukson, if I'm not wrong. So go him The other YSS can jump off a boat too. And god, too much junk in these episodes when are they gonna get the invasion in and begin the great admiral's perfect winning streak?

I understand the why YSS wants the chief ship builder to have a commanders status. But he has to be someone that knows how to manage workers and has their respect. If Arch Jr. was already the chief why did the men get upset? If he wasn't the chief builder, why not raise the chief?

I should know because my dad's from Masan. Remember these people are from kyungsangdo. By the way, please don't call me an ajussi.

You have to wait until episode 59 and beyond. lol But don't worry, I think anything before 57 is alright with one inaccurate exception. I won't say what it is yet.

So if we say Fester Samchon, it properly comes from Pugsley and Wednesday, and Fester Aje from Gomez?

I think I disagree here florel. Because "aje" is sat-tu-rhee mal from kyungsangdo province which means "samchoon" or a blood uncle. I should know because my dad's from Masan. Remember these people are from kyungsangdo. I guess you're right in the usage of "aje". As I'm not an expert of dialects, I was thinking "aje" was a friendly term of "ajussi". But a problem remains. YSS was a navy commander of Left Cholla province. Most of his soldiers speak Cholla province dialect in the drama. Among his officers, Kim Wan (new monkey man) speaks the perfect Cholla dialect. (very amusing ). But Su-Chang speaks with the standard Seoul accent except the Kyungsang province vocabulary "aje". lol Now I conclude that the use of "aje" should be a bug committed by the writer. When I saw this episode, I automatically considered two carpenters as ancient colleagues of Su-Chang's father (not Archfiend, of course, in this case. ;D ) Today I read the scenario and give credit to it. In the shipbuilders' sabotage scene, Su-Chang referred to one of two old men as "Jang Moksu (Carpenter Jang)". And, when he drinks with them in a village inn, he says he has known them since ten years, from the year when his father bacame a navy shipbuilder. If they are Su-Chang's real relatives, it's strange that they are jealous of him. Su-Chang's promotion in military camp is a social promotion at the same time and it also signifies the social promotion of the whole family. By the way, please don't call me an ajussi. Hee Hee.. Ok, Moreshige Hyungnim. ;D ;D ;D
