I don't understand why they selected German instead of English for translation.  Kim Hun's "Song Of The Sword" to Be Translated Into GermanThe Korea Literature Translation Institute has selected 11 Korean books to be translated into different languages in the first quarter of this year. ¡°Song of the Sword,¡± the best-selling book by Korean writer Kim Hun, will be translated into German, while Kim Young-ha¡¯s ¡°Black Flower,¡± which won the Dongin Literary Award last year, and his other novel, ¡°What Happened to a Man Caught in Elevator,¡± will be translated into English and Swedish, respectively. ¡°Song of the Sword¡± was nominated by Heidi Kang, professor of the Graduate School of Interpretation and Translation at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, and Ahn So-yeon, professor of the Department of German Language at Yonsei University. All translations will be funded by the institute. President Roh is also going to visit Germany next month. Read this article. (in Korean) 8) Germany is now hot with Korean stuff blah blah...  |

Florel, I'm not sure, but I think it's because the German government declared 2005 as "the year of Korea". President Roh is also going to visit Germany next month. Read this article. (in Korean) 8) Germany is now hot with Korean stuff blah blah... Also---Germany is THE entry port for the rest of the European market. It things go big in Germany,the rest of the nations check it out. For a long time, Germany was considered the USA of Europe (in terms of the arts,popular culture,etc.) especially to those east of the Rhine. Anything big in Berlin will migrate east--to Prague, Budapest, etc. In addition, German is read and understood, if not spoken, by much of Europe--a legacy of WWII. |

Are they going to translate it into english later on? We have no information about English translation up to now. How about studying German from now on ? ;D |
