I would gather that the left side of the painting are the Japanese ships facing the right side of the painting which are the dozen Korean ships. Without looking at the picture, it's really hard to imagine what would have looked like at that time. That painting puts everything into perspective.
Just imagine, those Koreans in those few remaining ships... as they watch the horizon, and see hundreds, even thousands of ships that black out the sea coming at them.. Wow..
