wow, i am finally liking this woman a lot. the admiral's wife (and i have misplaced her name in the recesses of my brain) sure showed me something in this episode. she is smart, strong, clever, compassionate and not afraid to stand up for what's right, or to do it alone. what a woman! her defense of cho-hee (?) was just outstanding. but the mrs did look like she had seen a ghost when she finally saw cho-hee's face. and who wouldn't have had that same reaction? as for the admiral and nalbal, i just loved the fight with the 3 japanese intruders. the admiral can kick butt even in all those robes, and nalbal....well i could gush ;D, but he is just spectacular with sword and spear. the music that was played during this scene was great. and the admiral, such an intelligent and compassionate man. he looks to do the right thing, not for himself, but for his country and his fellow countrymen. i just love these two men!

but the mrs did look like she had seen a ghost when she finally saw cho-hee's face. and who wouldn't have had that same reaction? Where as the clueless YSS and Nalbal had already seen her and totally missed the resemblance. I guess the guy who was boarding Mijin Jr. will now cooperate with YSS after being impressed by Mrs. Yi.

yes. the man has good taste strong, assertive and pretty, might I add I gained a lot of respect for her after she stood up for cho-hee. she is a woman of good character and I admire that but don't call Soon Shin admiral yet Anyway, after reading up on Yi SOon Shin, I have to say that I am honored to have a man like Soon Shin in our history. For kicking so much behind in the seas, and for having such a contagious enthusiasm that made his subordinates love him so much...

Yeah three cheers for YSS’s wife but what’s weird is that Mrs Yi (sorry I forgot her name) and YSS still look young as when they first met Mijin Cho Hee’s mother. Nalbal looks slightly older than YSS and he’s suppose to be in his mid 20’s. They need a better makeup artist like in the Romance of the 3 Kingdoms series where the characters are aged literally like Cheng Dong (?), Cao Cao’s former ally and Lu Bu’s ally. For instance, add some laugh lines, brow lines, and lines and bags under the eyes and a pot belly. They’re suppose to be in their 40’s by this time right?

I did not realize that YSS's wife and Mijin had ever met each other. I thought he went off to see Mijin just before she was captured, and that Mrs Yi told him to bring her to her dad's place, but since he never got a chance to, they did not meet. Does anyone remember when they did? (If it's in the show, I'm sorry--we're only up to 37)

Bo. They did meet. I'd have to go back on the tapes to find out what episode that was. It was back when Soon Shin was doing the pottery thing and studing martial arts. I have them all taped even tho not too good probably if you need to borrow them sometime.

They met after the charges against YSS were dropped and the commander of the military academy, YSS's father-in-law, went to the pottery village to bring YSS back to the capital. He brought his daughter and her maid (what happened to her?)
The aging is much better than AOW where they put odd patterns of grey in the actors wigs or made their faces orange. YSS's mother definately looks older. At least the beards age YSS and Won Kyun somewhat.

Yeah, ronin, I always thought that Nalbal looked older than the part he was playing. I wonder if the actor playing him is much older than the part assigned. How old is Nalbal supposed to be compared with Soon-shin? Would anyone like to attempt a calculation? I'm not good at telling people's ages.

hmm.....
YSS was born in 1545. He began training in Martial arts in 1566 (where we meet Mijin and Nabal). So he was 21 years old. Nabal was probably 7,8, or 9 years old.
Nabal encounters YSS in 1583 (the time he was appointed to guard against the Jurchens).
YSS was 38 years old at the time while Nabal was probably 26 if he was 9 years old 25 if he was 8 years old 24 if he was 7 years old
Where now in the year 1591. YSS is now 46 and Nabal is in his 30s.
So there's a 12,13,or 14 year gap between them. I think they cast it right.

Does anyone recall what Mrs. Yi said on the subject of 'love' shortly after realizing that Cho-hee was Mijin's daughter? She was either talking to herself or a servant, and was thinking about Soon-shin's possible reaction to seeing this girl who looked so much like her mother.

Hmm, my question is actually in regard to the beginning of episode 40. Sorry. Thanks in advance to anyone who can help.
