In the first episode, where Ha Ji Won offers her arm to be cut off as punishment, what was the significance of Lee Seo Jin's gesture when he takes his sword out and puts it in the ground. Was he challenging the right general ? and finally whose sword grazed her arm ?? Was it Lee Seo Jin's??

I wondered the same thing.
My take on it was that it was a response to the right officer's sword being out and not being able to be sheathed without him using it. In essence, I saw it as a challenge. You use your sword and I'll use mine.
I assume that right officer did the cutting and that Lee Seo Jin abstained because her arm was still attached, though damaged.
