Yesterday (Sunday),I saw the most moving documentary I have ever had the privilege to watch on any TV network. It was called "Letters to Mother". I believe it was narrated by the son of an 80-something woman whose long years of raising 12 children and working in the fields was rewarded with stomach cancer. The program showed the woman's grown children caring for her, feeding her, and inviting her into their homes.
Americans, who live in a country where the elderly are seen as disposable, could learn much from watching this program. I hope it will air again in the near future.

I saw that, too. It was incredibly sad. Ten of those children had died, some of them quite young. The two remaining, who seemed to be in their 40s or 50s, weren't in the greatest shape; the son seemed to be a bit of a lost soul, and the daughter was married and had to work as well as take care of her own elderly in-laws. Plus the mother didn't want to be away from her own home. She had worked in the fields all her life and lived in a converted stable that was the family home her sons built for her, so that's where she wanted to die. Even though she could barely care for herself or eat, and there was nothing for her to do all day except sit outside and watch the occasional car go by. She was so skinny and weak . . . it was very moving. It seemed as though she was just about out of time.
