I think it might be one of the "Chosun Wang-jo 500 nyeon(500 years of Chosun dynasy)" series. (MBC, in the 1980s, directed by the DJG's director ;D) The subtitle was "Im-jin Wae-ran". (the name of the war between Korea, Japan, and China from 1592 to 1598) This is also one of the "500 years of Chosun dynasty" series. The title was "In-Hyeon Wang-hoo" (the name of the queen who was deposed by the evil Lady Chang Hee-bin but later restored her title). It was also directed by the DJG's director. ;D

Jang Hee-bin, the story of a ambitious court woman who framed the queen and took her seat until she herself got exposed and forced to drink poison is one of the famous re-make of all historical dramas in Korea.
There are other old movies and several darmas on that particular story. Why they're so many? Try wondering why there's so many versions of Robin Hood then-
In the old days she was portrayed as a femme fatale. It slowly changed to a image of cunning, intelligent woman later on to a daring figure who held a good fight against rigid hierachical system on Joseon Dynasty. One journalist pointed out it has to do with the change of woman's status in the current Korean society and thankfully, for the better.
I wish you good luck for reserach into old version, "In-hyeon Wang-hoo". That's over a decade ago. The funny coincidence is, Jeon In-hwa and Lee Deok-hwa who acted as Jang Hee-bin and her greedy brother, again appeared as siblings in "Yeo-in Cheon-ha" with Lee again shown as a villain that take advantage of his sister's position.
But I recommand either the one starring"Jung Seon-jeong" or the most recent one starring "Kim Hae-soo" which I heard, was particuarly well received in Taiwan.
