K-Dramas always have a lot of these, but this show seems to have more than its share. Brain damage, detatched retinas, paralysis, aphasia, and now a miscarriage. And I read on KBS's site that there's more to come. Add in the accidental injury to Jin-soo, and the assorted black eye and hearing impairment of the walk-ons, and this is one ill bunch.

So then maybe they should change the title to "My Sick Child."
p.s. I had never in my life heard of "aphasia". And I felt so sorry for Jihae, not only for the miscarriage but also for the desperation she must have felt when no one answered their phone.

Actually there are two kinds of aphasia that I've studied - I never heard about the one where you can't speak at all. One is Wernicke's aphasia - it's when you speak with correct grammar but the words you speak are garbage. Like "Rose Hats ate the floor mop." The other is Broca's aphasia - it's when you have the words right but the grammar/structure is off. Like "Cart push me." I looked it up on Wikipedia just now, though. Has anyone ever read the man who thought his wife was a hat? It's a research book about neurological disorders. The man who thought that had nominal aphasia (just learned the name for that one). Anyway, it seems like Duk-bae has global aphasia since he can't speak at all. Isn't it good what I can learn from the neterint? Hee. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aphasia

There is a similar condition where people cannot recognize faces. On a science show (Nova?) I saw, a doctor would show a woman pictures of famous people, but she couldn't identify them. He then showed her a picture of himself, but she couldn't even tell it was the man holding the picture.
She said it was very frustrating, because she couldn't recognize long-time friends on the street, until they spoke to her, and she could recognize their voices.
These sorts of illnesses often occur after a stroke.

Yeah i felt so bad for jee-hae. she didn't even realize that she was pregnant, that probably makes her feel even worse. how can mom and dad's cell phones not work in the bar? im lost on that. anyways, i thought the scene was soo sad with jeehae and her mom when sung-ae (is that mom's name? i can't remember) found out when she went to visit her. she probably feels so guilty and helpless. she was almost in tears sitting at ji-hae's bedside. that was possible the most touching scene between mother and daughter (sung-ae n ji-hae that is). i wonder how mom feels knowing that their relationship is not as tight as with it is with minsup.
i only remembered ji-hae's conception dream when they showed the scenes today. i thought she might have been pregnant when they first showed it in the previous episode but i completely forgot all about it.

I think they were all talking so loud and laughing so much, that they couldn't hear their phones ring.
I wonder how Min-sup will deal with this. He has been so possessive of his daughter, but he wasn't here for her when she really needed him. Ji-hae yelled at him for not being there, so he now says he hates Ji-hae, but I'm sure he's actually upset with himself.

Ur, that really made me angry how he said that he hated her when he was the one who was initially poisoning their relationship (with jae-min's mom). She at least was mature about it - she cares for little kids and likes her son and his wife now and doesn't seem like she's going to try to do anything to harm their marriage. I think lying silent in her room listening them go about their lives around her did a lot of that; along with the kids sacrificing so much to help her. But min-sup is just a "fair-weather" father, if those exist.

I'm so grateful for this post, I was about to ask if any of these problems in MPC were medically accurate. And everyone but Eun-soo's son knew what aphasia was, I was feeling out of the loop. Thanks, everyone!
