Okay, how busy could a car parts plant president possibly be that you can't stay for the surgery or postsurgery recovery of your wife of at least 25 years?
This guy is amazing, it's one thing to have a good work ethic, quite another to put that ahead of your family's health. No wonder she was so mad at him. As soon as she gets her sight back she should go on a mad shopping spree and buy all the sweater sets her heart desires.

I agree galacticchick, work is never that important that you can't spend time at the hospital with your wife, especially when you are the president of a company!
I wouldn't buy sweater sets, I would buy diamonds!

omg, i totally agree~
i mean come on~whenever jaemin's dad comes home...all he tells his wife is: 'give me food!'...i'm like, is that the only thing he tells his wife?!?! And if they are a married couple, he should at least show some love and share deep/long conversations with his wife...but all he does is come home, ask her for food, and goes to bed or do something on his own~ Jaemin's mom probably feels really lonely at home all alone or with her husband~

Jae-min’s dad wins the Insensitive Man of the Year award for this one! I know my parents always make sure to be there for the other if one’s going to be in the hospital, even if my brother or myself will be there. They aren’t presidents, but sheesh, let the V.P. handle things for a couple of hours! He reminds me of one of my aunts. During my dad’s kidney transplant, all of my mom’s sisters came to wait with my brother and me, but my dad’s sister couldn’t come since she had to help out at a neighborhood GARAGE SALE. Some people.

Ok...so having a baby isn't the same thing as that surgery, but my (Korean) DH went to work after I had my DD. I had her on a Sunday am, he was at work Monday and when I was released Tuesday, my mom had to come pick me up - he wouldn't come get me! No, he doesn't work for someone. It's HIS company, so it's not like he'd be fired for missing two days!! His feeling was that if he wasn't at work, no one would do what they were supposed to and he'd have even more work to do. Whatever. LOL....must be the culture, I don't know. Melissa

Man, I hope you still give him grief about that one. You should have asked him in classic K-drama style, "What is this, are we strangers?" followed by a whole lot of chest pounding and aiguus and "Let's just die. Why don't you just die with me".

I’m starting to get worried now. Complications with the surgery? Oh no! Will the mom lose her sight? She kind of irritated me but she certainly didn’t deserve this. She’s so nice.
Why couldn’t Eric from Phoenix get the detached retinas? Then I could keep mocking him asking, “How many fingers am I holding up? Oh that’s right—you can’t see! Bwahahahaha *sinister organ playing in the background*.

OK, here's my screwed-up-priorities story: when my aunt died this summer after a long illness (at the end of which her 3 kids were with her literally around-the-clock for the last, heartwrenching 19 days), her sister-in-law called and asked if they could POSTPONE THE FUNERAL for a day because she had a business meeting she couldn't get out of. That is so insensitive that it's hilarious--I can't even be mad about it. Plus, it's not really my issue, since she's not my mom. (They didn't postpone it, and she showed up anyway. Go figure!)
People are funny! But at least Jae-min's dad is taking a couple of days off now.
I hope J-M's mom is OK! I like that lady, though she can be annoying. She's very sweet and just needs to back off her kid a little.

I agree. Her heart is in the right place, although she tends to go overboard! LOL
He does....believe me, he does! Along with other things that were said, like "the pain can't be THAT bad" - I was on pitocin and no meds...natural childbirth - but I digress. :-)
No way! That is ridiculous - it's funny how people can work things out when previously it was impossible, eh?
Again, this might be the culture. The first thing my DH says when he gets home is "I'm hungry!!" If food isn't ready (and it's time consuming), then he'll snack on food while waiting. Seeing the dad eat that melon without peeling it was kind of funny and reminded me of my husband! LOL
Regarding MPC, the mom doesn't have to stay at home feeling lonely. She is in Seoul - a huge city with plenty to offer! It's not like she's in the middle of the desert with nothing to do - she is in a metropolis with plenty of activities to choose from (volunteering at an orphanage, day care, etc). It'll be interesting to see how this eye stuff works out. (I'm a little behind you guys RE: episodes, so I haven't seen it yet)

Hi, Melissa,
How far behind are you? Have you gotten to the part where Mrs. Jae-Min's Dad takes care of various little abandoned children? That comes before the part we're talking about now. It's very cute, especially when she keeps hugging the little girl like a doll and exclaiming over how cute she is. You can see that woman has a lotta love (not to mention money!) to give.

on a side note - i hope there's a further storyline with those children.. its nice to see jaemin's mother doting on some kids in need instead of smothering her own son...
and i hope she's gonna be alrite...
