I noticed yesterday on "My Happy Family/My Precious Child" that they used a word several times that sounded like "Bok-ja." (The name of a character on "Phoenix.") I can't remember what it meant--hungry? let's eat? Clearly I have no memory. All I know is it was in the kitchen scene when ESM and Jin-soo were eating pizza, and ESM asked Hee-soo to fetch plates. If Michael is reading this, or if anyone here speaks Korean, can you enlighten me? I posted this on the "Phoenix" board as well.
Thanks, Lucy

Now, I don't speak Korean, but I do recognize the phrase, "pap bok-ja" or something like that. It means something like "Let's eat rice" literally, although it might be used to say, "Let's eat." I don't really know, this is just what I'm assuming after watching Korean TV for years. So it does sound like Bok-ja. Did her parent's name her Let's Eat?! Very interesting question, I'd like to know the answer too!

Yes, that's what they were saying! "Let's eat." It was when ESM was teaching him to say "Let's eat pizza" rather than just the rudimentary phrase "Let's eat." Thank you, Jenny!

Mok Ja is Lets Eat. That's probably part of what you're hearing them say.

Oh, that makes sense. Pap mok ja. The p/b sound at the end of pap (rice) merges with the mok to sound like bok-ja. You learn something new every day!
