I've been without any Korean programming for 3 days now with patchy service for about 5. My Korean satellite provider is upgrading their service and instead of two channels we are to get two more (total of 4?) and in the meantime there is NO SERVICE! So, I'm missing all of my dramas - one of which is MPC.
Supposedly, it's supposed to be back in service by Sept 1, but that is SO long! If anyone has time can they give summaries of the show?
If you can - GREAT! If not, I completely understand!!
Thanks! Melissa
P.S. Perfect timing for this "blackout" because DH has been in Korea for the past week. I don't think he'd survive without his programming. i.e., news! LOL

Melissa, please tell everyone what you know has already happened. We can't catch you up if we don't know what you missed, dearest. (Always assuming you are not far ahead of us, anyway! OLOLOLOL)

Actually, I'm a few episodes behind you. :-) But, I like hearing about the events that happened. I don't expect anyone to remember all the episodes from last week, but anything anyone can remember from last week would be wonderful!
Everything is fusing together, but these are the bits I remember seeing - the cell phone being thrown in the water, older brother being asked to investigate (find info on) the stepmom, the cosmetics couple planning to quit their job....
I know this is a terrible summary of what I remember seeing last (it's been a week ago this past Friday that I've seen a complete episode - the satellite video feed would black out and I'd only have audio...not much help when I READ the subtitles! LOL)
Thanks! Melissa
P.S. I'm not asking about Phoenix, because ours ended a week or two ago....but mum's the word! ;-)

I only watch sporadically, Melissa, and this may be stuff you end up seeing because you are behind us, but what I remember is:
Jin-kook's brother is in the hospital, due to a sudden fever ("Just like last time he was sick"). JK has been to lunch with his future in-laws, and that went very well. Hee-soo's mother told her son that she thought JK was not madly in love with HS, but that she wondered why he seemed so lonely. I think she liked him. After the luncheon, it seemed to prompt JK to ask why his stepmother hates him (he went to the hospital for this). He swore he'd find out and one of them would go down, and even if it's him, at least he'll know why she hates him.
JK's dad is suspicious of his wife, but he's not handling his investigations very well. She's completely on to him and making HS lie to him at every turn, making HS uncomfortable and a little sick. Also, somehow, stepmom officially became president of the company, displacing Jin-kook. I did not see how this happened. I wonder about the profitability of that place. They are clearly rich. Did Golf Dad build it up, or stepmom? He seems a little stupid to have done such a thing.
HS's brother is investigating the stepmom, and has some info on her family. I believe others have discussed this on the board.
The happy geeky newlyweds have quit their jobs to "start a business"--I'm not sure if that's just the excuse they give, or what. Also, they are coming home early each night to throw their parents off the scent, and are looking for a local apartment. I can't help thinking that bottle of lotion the Archfiend gave his girlfriend is going to cause trouble for these two somewhere along the line--they probably signed confidentiality agreements.
The Archfiend seems to be having an affair with that hostess. He and HS's father went on a fishing trip, and some hanky-panky seems to have occurred, witnessed by HS's dad. The AF's wife (I do have to learn these peoples' names, don't I) hasn't a clue. She's just happy (as is his grumpy mama) he's being "well-behaved."
That's what I have. Hope it helps. If something puzzles you, ask away.

That sounds pretty good, Bo. One thing I noticed and that kind of turns my stomach is that though there doesn't seem to be any love lost between the Archfiend and Lawyer wife and all they do is argue, he still has, um, "access" to her. Twice now we've seen him climb into bed with her and try to start things up, and the implication is that he succeeds even though she isn't interested. She's just putting up with it ("Lie back and think of England [or maybe Jeju]" is the general idea, I think). Yuck. This is what happened when he came back from the fishing trip with the Other Woman, which makes me think they're not having an affair but rather a flirtation.
BTW, aren't his table manners disgusting? If I see him deliver one more line with kimbap hanging out of his slack mouth, I'm going to be sick.

His assaults on his wife have bothered me, also, Luce. It seems icky. I do think he's having an actual affair; just because he has one woman doesn't mean he doesn't have an appetite for another.
I think we've discussed before on the board how different table manners are on these shows. It amuses me that people who turn their heads to take a drink and shield their teeth with their hands if they laugh will conduct an entire conversation with their mouths stuffed full of rice--but even in those parameters, he's extremely nasty when eating.

Oh, yes, Melissa. When JK threw HS's phone into the water, he demanded to know who was that "restricted number" from which she got so many calls. He gave her a new cellphone. Evil Step got all po'd that HS was not answering her calls, and she went to her house to meet with HS's mother. She told Mom that HS had seduced her "son" and caused him to pay off the loan. Mom was quite upset and told Evil that she was going to put a stop to the romance. While they were speaking, Evil got a call from HS and left the house without telling Mom (that freaked the good lady out, I can tell you). HS told Evil what happened with the phone, who reamed her out for not erasing her call history every day. She told her to erase it after every call. (Like JK wouldn't notice that her history was always empty.) Evil also told HS to get pregnant immediately. Uh, yeah, just like that.

I was thinking the same thing re: the whole "access" thing. I feel sorry for her, really. She's always working, her mother in law kinda likes her and her husband spends more time and is a whole lot nicer to other women. (what's up with Other Woman's eyes? It looks like she got that eyelid surgery and they botched it--she always has a surprised look on her face like this: Also, he's not the only character that eats like that. If you notice every single on of them talks with their mouth open. I think it's a cultural thing-a sign that the food is really good (or I may be confusing it with another country) like the more slurping sounds you make, the more it shows you like it.

No, but I still think it's not physical. He's definitely being untrue to his wife, but I don't see any evidence that they are involved sexually; the other woman just doesn't seem too invested. It's just a flirtation that goes too far, IMO. Same thing went on with one of the characters in "On the Green Prairie." He neglected his home life and spent a lot of time at a certain cafe/bar chatting up the lady proprietor--enough to be a definite proto-affair--but there wasn't any implication that there was actual sexual cheating. At the risk of impugning real-life lady proprietors, maybe there is something in the culture about single women who own "hospitality" businesses engaging in a little (nonsexual) geisha-like behavior?

Thanks so much! It's driving me crazy not knowing what's going on in these shows. I'm going thru withdrawal - had two or three new shows that started the week before, so now I'm left wondering if they are going to resume where they left off or not...frustrating! What you wrote was new to me and sounds funny/interesting. I agree about AF and his table manners - really disgusting. I remember him fussing about the "possibility" his DD moving in with her inlaws and he was spitting rice all over - disgusting his wife and mother. ~Blech~ I really like HS and her man - they are just adorable, even though the circumstances are the greatest (mildly put) - and I am VERY curious to know what secrets the SM has in her closet. Thanks so much Bo - and Lucy! Even if I haven't seen the shows at least I don't feel as though I've totally missed out on everything. Two days and counting (and hoping everything works by Sept 1)! Although, I'm afraid they're going to have problems because today on channel 2 of the Korean programming (well, blank screen) they were showing CHINESE news.....I'm hoping that was a mistake...and assuming it was since the screen is now blank again. AARRRGGGHHH!!! American TV just doesn't have the same appeal! LOL Melissa

They showed the chinese news (I think it was chinese) on channel 28 until about 6:10 pm, at which point they started mpc.
Is it me, or are there about twice the amount of commercials during each evening episode? After the title screen there were some, then every ten minutes until the end of the episode. Previously, there were only commercials at the beginning, end and once in the middle. I guess that means that there were 4 sets instead of three but it's still annoying for it to be broken up so often.

The news is usually YTN, which is similar to CNN ( www.ytn.co.kr/ ) I wonder if the whole situation with the variable start times and the commercials might be with someone new opperating the video tape machine at KBC. I noticed during OMR that something would be wrong with the picture, there would be a commercial (even if it was just a few moments after the show began), and when it came back, the picture was fixed.
