Soran gently slid aside the door and looked out to see if the Chief Convoy had left. Not seeing him anywhere, she crept outside and returned to her task. That Chief Huh! Something about him made her feel uneasy, like a cornered animal. She was glad he was gone.
Bringing the nightcap inside, she took it to the general who was writing some letters at his desk. Upon her entrance, he gave her a pleasant smile. "Soran ah, thank you so much" he said, accepting the drink.
Smiling she bowed and wished him a good night.
As she closed the door to his room, she couldn't help wishing for an excuse to stay with him - to have him smile at her some more. Since the day he had saved her brother and herself and countless others, she admired him more every day. He was principled, noble, brave, compassionate, intelligent and driven. Even if he were not so handsome, she knew she would still be completely taken with him. But she could never tell him - he had no time for her. Knowing this, she tried to content herself with doing what small tasks she could for him, so long as she could be near him

Chung Chong Bu had just left the palace after an audience with the emperor.
When this news reached the ears of the empress dowager, she sent for her son.
"Hwang Sang", she began sternly, "what was it that you were discussing with Chung Chong Bu?"
Myong Jong shifted nervously across from his mother. "Oh, well, ah..."he began. Sitting in front of his mother always made him so nervous! "As a loyal servant of the nation, I was thinking of maybe rewarding Chung Chong Bu by marrying his son to Princess Su An-"
The emperor was startled out of his explanation by his mother's loud slap to the table top. "Hwang Sang!" she admonished. "Chung Chong Bu has already claimed some of the most important and powerful posts in the empire. But marrying him to Princess Su An is out of the question!"
"Dae Woo Bae Ha..." he countered weakly.
Reading his mind, the empress dowager replied, "I don't care if he helped place you on the throne. His son is a scoundrel and I would not punish Su An by forcing her to marry that ignominious womanizer. That is all!" With that, she stood up and swept majestically out of the room.
Myong Jong began to feel sick. "What will I do?" he said softly. "I already promised Chung that I would see to it and accepted his chae mool (money)..."

Kyung Dae Seung was mulling over this thoughts at his favorite place of solitude - the rocky cliff overlooking the river. His frustrations with the situation in the palace were interrupted when a voice behind him asked,
"Kyung Jang Goon?"
Kyung turned around to see a grey haired monk, staff in hand standing behind him, his eyes covered by the brim of his hat.
"Who are you?" Kyung asked the stranger.
Tilting his hat up so that the general could see his face, the monk replied, "My name is Duduel. I am pleased to make your acquaintance, Jang Goon" he said with a serene smile.

As the general walked over to him, Duduel took a moment to get a good look at him. His first impressions were of a man of high principles who truly wished to serve the people. Perhaps he had been to quick to worry.
"What can I do for you, Sunsah?" Kyung asked politely. What he heard next surprised him.
"Have you heard of the Archfiend?" the monk inquired.
"Morra?" Kyung took a step back. "He's a treasonous criminal who killed the previous emperor and is now hiding in the north! What about him?"
Duduel spoke in calm tones. "I believe him to be the Imperial Dragon of Kaelim, who will bring a new age of peace and plenty to the people." He waited for the general's reaction.
Kyung Dae Seung clenched his fists. "The archfiend is a criminal and if he returns to the city, I will find him and bring him before the emperor to be judged."
"Do not be so quick to judge yourself, Kyung Jang Goon" Duduel warned, walking away. "I will see you again." And with that he was gone, leaving Kyung to wonder what that meeting had been all about.

In the north, the Archfiend was still enjoying the high life when Ja sun and Choi Bu entered his tent. "Hwang sang Bae Ha" Ja sun asked, "When will we head south to take the imperial city?
The archfiend shook his head gamely, his earrings swinging around his face. "What's the hurry?" he slurred, pouring another serving of wine. "Come, have a drink with me, the two of you!" Declining politely, the two men left the tent.
Outside, Ja Sun looked at Choi Bu with doubt in his eyes. "Do you think he might not be the Imperial Dragon of Kaelim?" he asked his friend.
Choi Bu countered, "If Duduel says he is the Imperial Dragon, then I will believe it. I have sworn my loyalty and will not break my oath." He couldn't believe that Duduel had made a mistake. He had waited too long to meet the famed Imperial Dragon.
