is it korean custom to:
NOT untie your hair even you go to sleep??
i just found this odd when compared to our practice here in the philippines coz i think it is very uncomfortable...
in jewel in the palace, not even the queen mother unties her braided hair!!! (when she fell ill)...
and in Princess Hours, the lead actress did not untie her ponytail.. scene: the first time the lead couple went to the summer house of the royalty...
anyone who can explain this? hehehe... go ma wo!

It's probably just preference. If I have my hair in braids or if it's up or something, I don't let it down when I go to sleep. But most of all, it's probably for convenience when shooting. They film several scenes a day and to untie their "hair" everysingle time would be time consuming.

In period movies the women would braid their hair before they went to bed, no matter what style they used during the day. Braids would keep long hair from getting snarled and then pulled out while combing it. OTOH, it's probably all extensions and can't be removed.

Well, there you have the historical reason. LOL. I was trying to think modern-day practical.

In an exhibit I saw at the Art Institute of Chicago, they have a pillow from that period, narrow from front to back, and explain that it supports the neck, rather than the head, so that you can leave your hair done up while you sleep without mussing it up.
