I cried too. She was so - human. She has been the antagonist all along but you can see that all she really needs is love. I cried for the tragedy that her life was.

I didn't cry when I watched it, but I remember that scene really well. Unrequited love is always so tragic yet precious. Look at her competition too, how can she ever win. I felt for her. She met the perfect man and she can't have him. She love him anyway, she's done alot to keep him safe. Outisde of JG, it is always her exchange with MHJ that I like the most in this series.
Does anyone know the name of the piano piece that was played in the background? I like to get it. It reminds of this scene.

Never mind, I just found the music for it. It's APNA from the soundtrack. Ladyhan, the music was played throughout the scene when I watched it, it was missing in the version you saw? That is a bummer -- it is such a beautiful piece of music and when I hear the music I think about how the two of them felt in that scene. It was a touching speech.

That is one of my favorite Geum Young scenes. I really felt her pain during that scene, it's really difficult when you do everything but the one you love can't return your love.
And Hong Ri-na has this way of "almost but not quite" crying that really touches you.
I've always felt for Geum Young because, she really started out as a good person and she really wanted to be an upright person. It was because of her family that she became who she was. I know deep down she really cared about Jang Geum and Lady Han, remember she even used Lady Han's teaching methods on her successor. Her life is really sad, because she could've turned out differently.

Jas, She wanted it to end, but it doesn't actually end, does it? She was not a bad person, just was caught up in a bad situation. She did try to help both JG and MJH throughout. I really felt for her. She fought to be on the side of good and her situation just won. As she said, she is helpless and when she was lost, there was never anyone to guide her as JG did. JG had the love of everyone, esp. MJH, who gave her the strength to carry on. She was alone, on her own. Sort of remind of the Eponine character in Les Miserables. The song 'On my own' would be fitting for her. Tragic but memorable nonetheless.

i think she is a nice person, except when it comes to competition. she always wants to be the number one at everything, but JG stands in her way.... ^^

Jas, She had no choice. This is how she was brought up. She had to carry on the family name. She needed to head the kitchen staff because that's what was expected of her. Had she been free, she would have married MJH, but she couldn't. Her family told her early on she must take over the head chef position. She was prepped all of her life to win every competition. Imagine her anguish when no matter how hard she tries, she couldnt' win againt JG, in cooking and in love, she is always the runner-up, the bridemaid and never the bride. It's alot to overcome.

jasmine- i think her acting seemed unconvincing because that was the purpose of her role. she wasn't classified as a kind nor evil person. That is why she is a complex character.

yup ive noticed that too..she always want to be ahead of everybody.. i just watched the boxset..episode 18 or 19..am not sure..twas the time that DJG just revived her sense of taste and GY approched her while DJG was cooking for MJH.. GY said "I am happy that you have revived your sense of taste coz you are my only competition here..."
well..my sister exclaimed "What arrogance!"...

Imagine her anguish when no matter how hard she tries, she couldnt' win againt JG, in cooking and in love, she is always the runner-up, the bridemaid and never the bride. It's alot to overcome. In the scene where Jang Geum, as a physician lady, spoke to Keum Young privately, putting aside their differences, Keum Young said much the same as you are saying here. She had no choice, her family demanded it of her, she had no one to help her, etc. Jang Geum, correctly, said: "That's just an excuse." You always have a choice. We are born with free will. Keum Young chose to do everything she did, including her complicity in the attempts to get rid of (by murder, if necessary) Lady Jung, Lady Han, and Jang Geum herself. All she had to do was say no. She chose otherwise. Like Lady Choi, she didn't *enjoy* inflicting pain on others, but that never stopped her from doing it, nevertheless. Her tragedy is not that she was born into a horrible family. It was that she was too weak to do the right thing, even though she knew what the right thing was. By contrast, Jang Geum was constantly faced with similar decisions, and she always did the right thing - regardless of the consequences.
