Hello everyone~ I was just reading through and saw the translation to the DJG theme song. I must say, part of it was right, and part of it needs correcting, so here it goes.. This is a song expressing the sad, "han"-filled hearts of the palace maids. o-nara, o-nara, a-ju o-na (would he come would he come, if I told him to come?) ga-nara, ga-nara, a-ju ga-na (would he go, would he go, if I told him to go?) na-na-ni, na-ryo-do, mot-no-na-ni (even if I wait a thousand years we could never keep comany) a-ni-ri, a-ni-ri, a-ni-no-nae (no, no we could never be) ae-ya, dee-ya, ae-ya, na-na-nee-yo =this line is what Koreans call "choo-im-sae" meaning, a fill in to stimulate the feeling of the song. In english it would be close to filling in a song with "ooh~ baby" or "oh yeah~" or "that's alright~" ect. (you get the idea) oh-ji-do, mot-ha-na, na-do-ga-ma [(You might as well) take me out of here, since he won't come] ae-ya, dee-ya, ae-ya, na-na-nee-yo oh-ji-do, mot-ha-na, na-do-ga-ma This is a sad song depicting the hearts of palace maids in which they spend their whole lives hoping the king will notice her. The king cannot come and go as she wishes, and she feels sad that he does not know her love for him. It's a "han" for the maid since now she has to grow old all alone without ever having a realtionship with the king. This song is from a traditional korean genre called "pansori". It's very heavy and sad. More about pansori yahooligans.yahoo.com/Arts_and_Entertainment/Music/Pansori/

Wow! That is a beautiful translation of the theme song. Thank you. This OST is my current favorite and I play it several times during the day while I work.

Thank you! I had to look it up on the net and translate it. Since the song is in the form of an ancient poem alot of Koreans don't know what it means either. Have a great day!

Thanks for the translation. There are actually many conflicting interpretations of the song - even in Korea - because it is an ancient poem that's difficult to understand. Knowing the meaning behind it, it becomes rather sad to hear children singing it - the young palace maids will be living passively in the oppression of the palace 'forever'. Unless, of course, they are like the protagonists in DJG. And I would call it oppression, with all the pragmatic rules and power struggles. And sadly, it parallels our world today.
