I'm not clear about his status. Does he actually have a position in the government, or is he just wealthy and influential?

Isn't he a minister of some sort? He presided over the trial of Lady Han and the duck seller, I think you'd have to have some actual position to do that.

I just found someone spelling out his position as "woo-eu-jung" in episode 35. It is the highest position that a government official could hold (official of 1 poom(degree/class)]). More like the Secretary of State, or even prime minister, perhaps?

Hi, everyone. Long time no see. ^^
Anyway.... Sir Oh is now, in episode 35, in the position of "Woo-i-jung"(Right prime minister), one of the three highest government officials. The 3 positions belong to the first grade of Chosun(a.k.a. Joseon)'s bureaucratic hierarchy.
The titles of top three officials are "Young-i-jeong"(Top prime minister), "Jwa-i-jeong"(Left prime minister), and "Woo-i-jeong"(Right prime minister).
No. 4 title is "Do-jae-jo"(2nd grader). You know the old man who is now helping Min Jeong-ho. Yes, he is.
Historically, in most cases (not a definitive law), top prime minister(Young-i-jung) is the leader of that time's ruling party and no. 2(Jwa-i-jung) is the opposition party's leader. Chosun had no system like "Imperial Guardian". Unlike the previous Koryo dynasty, Chosun favored literary men over soldiers. For example, Colonel Min Jeong-ho was "Jong-sa-gwan"(6th grader, military commander) when he met JG for the first time. He appears to be a soldier to take responsibility for guarding the palace. Actually, however, he is not a soldier but a civil official. Soldiers and police were entirely controlled by civil officials who had passed a national civil service examination as a literary man. Top 3 government officials are also civilians. (I mean, literary men)

I think he's like a high eunich or something..I don't think he's that high of an official because the military guadrian has control over what it is he does.but then again..he probably got promoted...I haven't seen the show in a few weeks

A lot of times the way Sir Oh talks and moves his face remind me of Mr. Suh and wonder if there could be any of the goodness in him , then I remember it's another program and he is a very wicked man on this drama that's all I wanted to say. Maggie. ;D
