Was I the only one who found that scene where they were grooming Yeun-seng for the king creepy? I mean, yech. "Don't move, no matter what. Don't make a sound no matter what he does. We're cutting your nails so you don't harm his body." Euch, ech, uck! This guy doesn't seem so bad, but imagine that old king (Yeon-seng? The one they deposed). He was supposed to be a real creep. Poor court ladies. I guess that's why they had to make certain all of them were virgins. (But I LOVED the look on Lady Choi's face when the head lady [who seemed peeved herself] made the announcement-LOL.) It's ironic that she's Lady Jung's protege, too. All in all, it seems like this is actually a good thing for Yeun-seng, since it improves her position and, as I said, the king and queen seem like good people, but the way the "groomers" were talking and instructing her just made me want to vomit.

PS - It also amused me to see Lady Min in the position of "wise counselor"--she actually gave excellent advice.

Yeon-san. The previous king was Yeon-san. (Thanks, Choko!) Another creepy thing about this was the thing that JG's new sunbae said--"My married mother was picked up to be a concubine by the king's procurer"--so her family was completely destroyed. Which is why the physician is on her vendetta. Men, men. Whenever they have absolute power, they seem to go in for this kind of kay-rap. (We try and try to keep them in line LOL...) Bo

Wow , that was funny The Bo , the way you have with words , I just love the way you put it , I don't know how I missed this thread , ;D but you are right , what we all women had to put up with , even now , some still do. I do think Lady Choi wishes it was her or one of her protegees in YS place . Anyway how many women can that puny king handle , well thats another story , Maggie....

It was kinda karmatic for the Choi ladies when the former attendant Yi became the Soogong ma-ma. Exactly what rank did they confer on her (when they gave her the banquet and the Choi ladies had to do the wonderful bow of obeisance to her ). Having watched Yeoin Cheonha before (yes, without subtitles!), I know that the King's concubines have all these titles like Kyong-bin, Hee-bin, Chang-bin, etc. What differentiates them?
