Hello all- I feel that Episode 27 was one of the finest examples of writing and especially acting that I've ever seen in any venue. The dialog and performances were SO VERY good. Yes, it was, of course, a terribly sad episode. Now Jang Geum has lost a third mother figure (as well as her father) in her short life. The tension was so profound and emotional. Just watching Lady Han and J-G's eyes and expressions throughout the tragic ordeal was gut-wrenching, especially because all of this occurred through no fault of their own. (And I really mean gut-wrenching--- sometimes my stomach actually hurts from the tension and empathy I have for the characters in their struggles! -- To me, this really is a testament to excellent acting, certainly.) Does anyone know if Korea has a television award similar to our Emmy? This series should definitely earn more rewards other than just financial. Since this is such a powerful series, I sincerely hope that it will one day be released as a subtitled DVD for purchase. Hope someone out there is listening!

Does anyone know if Korea has a television award similar to our Emmy? Well each network has their own actor/drama award show. Dae Jang Geum won some awards at the 2003 MBC Actor/Drama Awards which took place in December of last year. Lee Young Ae (Jang Geum) won the Dae Sang (Grand Actor) award. Yang Mi Kyung (Lady Han) also won an award. The writer of Dae Jang Geum also won an award. However, the thing about the Actor/Drama Awards is that it only rewards the actors, writers and directors and not the dramas. If you'd like to see a complete list of the winners from the 2003 MBC Actor/Drama Awards use the link below. deiner.proboards18.com/index.cgi?board=generalmsgs&action=display&thread=1072853165Also, on the 26th of March aired the 40th annual Baeksang Awards. The Baeksang Awards are sort of like the Korean version of the Golden Globes. However, the only ones who won awards there from Dae Jang Geum were Yang Mi Kyung (Lady Han) and the director. This awards show does have an award for best drama but that went to KBS 'More Beautiful Than A Flower'. Hello knov1-- Thank you so very much for taking the time to respond and also for the information about the Korean awards. It's very gratifying to know that recognition has been given in Korea for such a wonderful project. I also appreciate that the drama is still getting the attention it deserves in the press and that some restaurants have even ressurrected the cooking style shown in the drama. The entire production was obviously such an enormous effort and the end result was wonderful. Really hope that this show will someday be considered a classic. Thanks again, knov1!
