My usual posts are on the Age of Warriors forum, and I always hear about The Great Jang-geum. Could someone tell me what the show is about? And where could I watch it? I don't think I get it on KBS here in New York (WMBC, channel 20). Does anyone watch in it in New York (for reference, I live in the Hudson Valley between New York City and Albany). Thank You!

Well, Eowyn, you could start by reading back on this forum. There are many, many recap posts of specific episodes and discussions about what the show is "about". Also, if you go to korean.wiz, there is a little synopsis about the show and a cast list (although it is not very informative). I think some people are watching this on Soompi--like I said, read back. Briefly, the show is a fictional tale based on a true story about a woman who became the king's physician in (17th century?) Korea. Right now, the show is showing her young life as a "kitchen lady" for the palace kitchens. Bo

I believe the channel that carries KBS in my area also carries other international programming, as well as, dare I say, infomercials. Saturday night an Italian movie was shown. I turned the tv on just now and there's Ponch from CHIPS selling real estate in Florida! I suppose I shall have to watch the channel at different times to see. Thanks for the info. I appreciate it.

MBC is one one the three major radio and TV networks in Korea, the other two being KBS and SBS. MBC stands for 'Munhwa Broadcasting corporation'; 'munhwa' means culture. As far as I know, it is not directly connected with any USA station. Their Web site is www.imbc.com , and the Jang Geum section is at www.imbc.com/broad/tv/drama/daejanggum/index.html .

Yeah, I found out that my WMBC stands for Mountain Broadcasting Corporation!! It comes from Newton, New Jersey and it does show international as well as commercial programming. It is a coincidence that their call letters have "MBC" in them. Anyhow, I was able to check their schedule, and I saw no MBC dramas listed. I guess I do not get Dae jang Geum.

As far as I know, Chicago is the only market in the country that gets the show with subtitles.

I believe it is Michael at the local Chicago station, KBC-28, who is adding the subtitles. We are eternally grateful...
His grace is immeasurable.

We get Korean satellite programming (and this show isn't subtitled) and my Korean DH says it's the BEST historical drama he's seen. *pout* I don't understand Korean, so I can't comment on this show! But we WILL be buying the DVD when it's released. (One Million Roses, A Pefect Match, Rosemary (which just ended) and a couple others ARE subtitled with TAN (The Asia Network www.tantv.com/) HTH!

Not being sub-titled anywhere might be why it WILL come out again and make MORE money.
