Hello, all-
Just wanted to share my enthusiasm for this wonderful show (Great Jang-Geum). I'm so grateful that a co-worker mentioned to me that it is a top-rated show in Korea.......I was honestly hooked after ten minutes or so. The beautiful quality in general of the scenes is something we seldom see, and I love the food, the clothing, the acting and the story itself. I wish it could go on, but I realize it will end sometime this spring. Does anyone know approximately which episode number has been aired today (1/24/04)? I started watching it last week and wish I had seen it from the beginning. I also greatly enjoyed "On the Green Prairie" and was very sad to see that show end. I am not Korean, so the subtitles are SO VERY much appreciated! --Thank you.

I believe it is episode 9 which aired Fri night/Sat morning in Chicago. Note that KBC edits out a couple minutes for the Fri. night show, to make room for ads; so Sat. morning always has an extra scene or two.
The key one this time was when Lady Han presented Jang Guem with a kitchen knife, which had belonged to Lady Hans best friend (Jang Guem's mother, but of course Lady Han doesn't know that; Jang Guem probably has figured it out, at least she suspects it).

To Walter-- Thank you very much for your reply about the episode number and the information I had missed. I also appreciate all of the messages currently existing on the board which describe events in the story previously aired. Such a great show! Thanks again.

This show is so interesting, in spite of the fact that it has few action scenes and not much romance either (yet). I suspect the officer JG saved and her might be an item in the future - of course, JG would have to leave the palace for that to happen, so I hope I'm wrong about that (I usually am! ;D ).

I can't believe how this show is so addictive. I am always disappointed at the end of Saturday night's episode because I would have to wait several days for Friday night's episode. I even told a friend of mine about the show and he can't see it in UK so every week he wants me to update him on the story. ;D

It's really my favorite show now. It's visually breathtaking; I love the way 90% of the action is in the hands of strong female characters; and the plotting is really great. It reminds me of Victor Hugo in the way it poses the characters with dramatic moral choices (not everyone loves Victor Hugo these days, but I do), like whether Keum-Young will betray her clan or her friend, for example. And JG herself is such an appealing hero (I am using the word 'hero' rather than 'heroine' deliberately)!

It's so disappointing to see Keum-Young lose her soul to the wicked Lady Choi et al., and the valiant Lady Jung (head kitchen lady) fighting the good fight and then having to swallow her pride to save Jang-geum. Every show is very exciting and moves quickly, too, even though time is not going quickly. This has been my favorite historical drama, and one of my favorite family dramas (because I think it fits into that category, too). Bo
