hey i just watched like a few episodes, and im starting to finally like it.... could someone give me a brief background of the show, and what has happened, and by the way im at episode 141, so how many more is there to go? You're an AOW person, aren't you. (Hah hah I guess the name doesn't tell me.) A) you might want to read back on this board. Episodes are discussed in detail, and there are a lot of recaps due to am/pm viewings. B) The general setup is, 30 or so years ago, In-huan fell in love with Soon-young, who was the cleaning lady's daughter. Kwi-boon refused to agree to the marriage, so they separated and SY gave up and married Mr Kang (we never see him). IH married the sister of the person we call "Rainbow Hag" (RH) (or I call her "Her Royal Heinie" (HRH)). Can't remember name. HRH's sister is killed one night in a hit-and-run accident. IH finds out SY is getting divorced about a year later, and meets her to help her; realizes they are still in love; marries her and brings her son Min-jae to live with them. Kwi-boon hates them both. It's a very rocky first 20 years. Daughter Eun-ji born. SY's sister, Soon-ok lives with them. Min-jae shunned by IH's son Hyun-kyu and best-friend-family Suh's children, Yu-jin and Yu-kyung. 2) Min-jae goes to school, meets best friend Hye-sung and falls for his sister, Hye-ran. Never tells them about his family; never tells family about them. MJ gets job at father IH's theme park, Joyland, is very capable and respected, gets promoted a lot, gets HR a job there, too. She does well. Plans to marry her. She thinks of him as a big brother. This is where the show started. 3) Hyun-kyu returns from studying in the States. Through a series of events, he meets Hye-ran, falls in love with her, wins her love, finds out her father is the hit-and-run driver who killed his mom, dumps her without telling her why, can't live without her, they get together. 4) Suh Yu-jin decides she loves Min-jae. He loves Hye-ran, but gets over it and marries YJ. They are relatively happy until YJ finds out about HR's dad. Then she starts trying to help IH's dad break them up, while MJ tries to help HK keep the relationship together. 5) HR's father has returned to Korea to find the father of little Ji-hoon, the son of the woman who took him in after a near-fatal beating in China. He blunders around causing a lot of trouble for everyone before his sainted wife finally tells him he's poison to his daughter's happiness, and why. He takes off, but it's too late, everyone finds out. 6) Somewhere in there, SO meets HR's uncle and they fall in love, but they've split up because of the bad family karma. They're trying to help HK and HR now. 7) Also, Yu-kyung (Yu-jin's sister) meets and marries Hye-sung. They are very happy, as are YK's parents, Mal-bong and Dong-pyo, who are the cutest couple on the show, and probably the most sensible, despite MB's sometimes silly prejudices. 8) Meantime, RH returns to Korea and starts butting into Joyland business to take revenge on IH for not loving her sister. She tries to get Min-jae fired. She finds out HR's dad is the driver of the fatal car and manages to get HR to leave town. Right now, HR is wandering around Busan working as a stevedore, waiting for HK to "give up on" her. HK is in deep misery and making sure everyone else is, too. RH seems to be trying to ruin Joyland or steal it. MJ is trying to keep everything together, and IH is acting like a self-indulgent a**. Oh, yeah--Soon-young may have breast cancer. Anyone else? Bo

Bo you did an admirable job of recapping. I would just add that YK was and still is HS's boss and that they "had" to get married since she is pregnant with his child. Oh, and maybe something about HR's landlord, that possibly gay but always entertaining Mr Kim, who is also the owner of the only Italian restaurant in town and who has evolved from stictly comic relief to an actual character and friend to all.

...by the way im at episode 141, so how many more is there to go? Welcome! We are currently on episode 132, viewing 133 tonight, so you are a little ahead of us. How many more episodes, I think quite a few since I read a post that said that Korea is six weeks ahead of us in OMR episodes.

Let's see: Mr Kim In-Soo: owner/maitre d' of an Italian restaurant, wicked sense of humor, sensitive, friend 2 all--gay certification process: 89% completed! ;D

But in the interest of completeness, don't forget to state the all-too-obvious "confirmed bachelor" status and his attention to his personal fitness and hygiene. He is careful about what he eats and is always on that exercycle. The bow ties and other sartorial touches could count, too. Also, the fact that he is so squeamish about any implication that he'd ever be with a woman (when Tae-ho used to tease him about Kum-ja).

Oh yes...totally forgot about that hand night cream application scene...almost choked on my Korean kal-bee shortrib dinner! ;D (Inputting details into computer, press enter, checking screen for results: Kim In-Soo gay certification process: 94 % completed! ).
