Ha! I laughed at the scene where Malbong takes this opportunity to make her husband squirm a little at the thought of taking a trip accompanied by a secret friend.
I can't say that I blame her too much because in reality the explanation DP gave her was never really satisfactory. He just told her that it was an accident. The viewers got to see how it actually happened although there was, at least in my POV, no indicator that he told her this.

Was this something to do with the "lipstick" scene (where the girl fell against him in the bar but he didn't explain to Mal-bong)? Bo

Bo, Yes, Mal-bong is "taking a trip" for a few days but she won't say where and with whom, just to tease Dong-pyo. I don't know if you have seen last night's episode, but here's what happened:
spoiler space * * * * * * * * * * * Soon-young told Yu-jin about the lump in her breast and the surgery. Yu-jin told Mal-bong and asked her to back up SY when she told the family that she was going away for a couple of days (so they wouldn't know about the surgery). So dear little Yu-ri took the opportunity to stick it to Dong-pyo (for no good reason, IMO, and the secrecy and confusion are probably going to backfire, if past results are any predictor of future performance in this show). She did tell him she's not going with a man, though. Anyway, after telling him about her trip she went to the bedroom and giggled to herself. Boy, she is quite the child-woman, isn't she!

So.... spoiler space (although I have a different theory about spoilers than everyone else, apparently...) 8 8 8 8 8 8 8 8 8 Mal-bong is going with Soon-young while SY is hospitalized, and instead of telling DP what she's up to, MB told him she was "taking a little trip" with an unknown person.
Gee. Wonder if their families will figure THAT ONE out.
Bo
Thanks, Luce!

Bo, the spoiler space was for your benefit, because you said you hadn't seen it yet. Lucy

Tonight's ep had Dong-pyo calling Mal-bong at Sun-young's hospital room. She tells him she wants to do what she wants. He calls her "Miss Carefree", saying she can leave whenever she wants, but needs his permission to return (he looks quite serious and angry saying this). She says "OK fine".
Soon-young is quite worried by this exchange, but Mal-bong explains they were just having fun with each other. Sure enough, we briefly see Dong-pyo chuckling about it all.
What's up with all the cell phone usage in hospitals in these shows, anyway? A few eps ago, we saw two characters in the hallway of the hospital, and in the backgroung was quite plainly a "No cell phone zone" sign.

Bo, the spoiler space was for your benefit, because you said you hadn't seen it yet. Lucy Well, if you want to be precise, I said I WASN'T GOING TO see it, and wanted to know what happened in the scene. Love you. Bo

A few eps ago, we saw two characters in the hallway of the hospital, and in the backgroung was quite plainly a "No cell phone zone" sign. I've noticed this, too. American soaps are guilty of the same mistake. I guess it's just too easy to have people grab their cellphones and get immediate connections, with the caller's name displayed so they can pick up and say, "Why are you still calling me?" . Bo

OK, but I don't know if I do want to be that precise. I was just attempting to be helpful. I couldn't imagine a scenario in which you knew ahead of time that you actually weren't going to see it. I think we're getting a little carried away with all this "it's a spoiler/it's not a spoiler" discussion, though. Not much harm was done by the mislabeling, IMO. All one had to do was skip the "spoiler space." Yes, I can see that things could be seen as getting carried away, what with labeling episode discussions "spoilers" when the episode has already aired, but that one particular message was directed at you, and I didn't understand that you wanted a full and frank discussion, as it were. I suppose I thought perhaps that you had taped it and weren't going to be able to watch it until after visiting the boards; I don't know. (spoiler space) * * * * * * * * * (Just kidding about the spoiler!)

Now, then, back to the discussion. I thought Dong-pyo was so cute in his jolly little private laugh session. (Gotta get my hands on a Teddy Ruxpin and craft that talking Dong-pyo doll!) Those two have such a good relationship. I was with Soon-young in worrying that maybe MB was carrying things to a dangerous point, but Mal-bong knows her sweet husband, all right. Doesn't it just point up the deficiencies in that stilted, angst-fraught marriage between IH and SY?
