Okay, I know I'll be hooted down, but I thought that scene between Min-jae and Aunt Rainbow in the restaurant was HOT. They don't seem to be into unconventional relationships in Korean soaps (although we're only getting to see a little sliver of what's available, LOL), but if they ever do a drama about an older woman/younger man relationship, I vote for these two to play the leads. No, really, when he walked into that bar and she looked over at him, sizzle!!! And when she poured him the drink, it was just classic Bogart-and-Bacall time. I tried watching it without looking at the subtitles, and sure enough, they looked like they were having a lover's quarrel. Hoot away. Bo

I'm glad other people thought the same thing.

*giggles* The very thought of them together like that makes me shudder but I can see your point about the scene. I think it's because they are both passionate in very different ways. RH is like a tornado, swirling around in anger, disrupting everything in her path. MJ's heat is more the smoldering kind. Even when his face is impassive his eyes are on fire. If this was an American soap you can be sure they would wind up in bed at some point but I think we can pretty much rule it out here (and I must say I'm grateful for that lol).

*giggles* The very thought of them together like that makes me shudder but I can see your point about the scene. Yeah, but it's because of the characters that it seems gross. The actors have some really excellent chemistry together. I even thought, in my evil little mind, that it's almost like these two have something going on in their personal lives (the actors, not the characters). It's more likely, I suppose and as you state, that it's the passion of each of these people, in their different ways, smacking into each other. You should excuse the expression. Bo

You know, I don't exactly see the heat between them, because Rainbow Hussy (I love that we have a little nickname for her) is just so evil and vindictive. To me she doesn't seem sexual. BUT I will agree that the way he came up in the background and they finally looked at each other . . . there was a "click." And you're right, Happy Camper, Min-jae *does* smolder! I hadn't thought of it that way, but there is a lot going on in those black, black eyes of his. Grrowwr.

Didn't notice him smoulder, my Astor Bar. I'm gonna start a "cutest guy" thread (unless someone beats me to it--I do have to work, despite appearances to the contrary), just like the guys always do for the women on the shows. Women can drool--er, make aesthetic judgments--too. Bo

Have you heard 'bout Min-jae, the star? He got a drink thrown in his face in the Astor Bar! Well, did you ever? . . .
Okay, it doesn't scan, but still, I wanted to tell you I appreciate your wide frame of reference.
Yup, got a crush on comely MJ, but I still can say things like the following: He is being so strange with Yu-jin about HK and Hye-ran. He has absolutely no idea what he's doing in that marriage, does he? I mean, he won't tell his wife? It's almost as if he *knows* he's a character in a soap opera and shouldn't tell anyone.
Like when people were wondering, on the Korean Dramas Yahoo group and here, too, I think, about how MJ and YJ--and most other couples on these dramas, for that matter--never touch or show physical affection. And I'm not just talking about the raunchy stuff you see on American TV; these K-drama people don't even kiss and barely hug even once in a while. So people were making up dialogue like, "Yu-jin, I'm feeling frisky, but I don't want to do it with 6 million viewers watching. Shall we wait until the commercial break and then make out?"

I'm scared for 2 reasons.
1. I was being sarcastic. Incest is just wrong. 2. I'm the only guy who post on the OMR board.

Never fear, 'tis not incest. The Rainbow Hussy is not Min-jae's aunt. #2 I can't help you with. Maybe if there's another man he will jump in here and make you feel better. I think we might scare off the he-men with our talk of purses and dishy boys.

The 2002 KBS miniseries 'Godok' starring Ryu Seung Bum and Lee Mi Sook was about a younger guy and a older woman.

I think this has more to with KBS than it does with Korean dramas in general. KBS is probably the most conservative network in Korea and they prefer to air more family oriented dramas. SBS dramas tend to be more modern and raunchy. In SBS dramas couples kiss, hug, hold hands, sleep together etc. While it's still toned down over American TV, SBS dramas are very different from KBS dramas. I can't remember the last time I saw a SBS drama were a female character said 'lets sleep together so our parents will let us get married' or 'get away someone will see us' when a guy tries to hug or kiss her. Those things are so common in KBS dramas but they never come up in SBS dramas. MBC dramas are somewhere in the middle.

The way K-drama actors avoid typecasting, anything can happen. I remember one show (a non-subtitled crime drama, I think it was) that had a scene with Young-ju from 'Tender Hearts' (Bae Joung-ok) in bed with King "Eye-patch" Goong-ye from 'Emperor Wang Guhn' (Kim Young-chol). Boy, did that weird me out! (Must have been an MBC drama!)
