Well, it seems that last night's episode finally shed a little light on what the relationship is between Hyeran's family and Hyun-ku's family.
For those of you who still haven't watched ep. 38 or 39 (one of those two) this might be a spoiler: * * *
Well, it seems that Hye-ran's dad was involved in a hit and run accident. Who else would be the victim? HK's mom. Hye-ran's dad is too scared to go back to the scene of the crime and so Kum-ja goes back to make sure the woman is okay or to at least get help. When she gets there she sees them cart her life-less body into the ambulance.
This is a pretty good/believable plot twist.

Actually, I'm finding this whole story a heckuva lot more interesting than the marriage scramble between the Oh boys. After all, we know that will straighten itself out (although we will enjoy watching it do so), but this mystery of what happened to H-R's father is just fascinating. Did Oh help him escape? Does he have connection's to Yu-Jin's dad (otherwise, why the picture)? Is this coincidence, is he the "Korean-Chinese" guide Yu-Jin mentioned in her phone call to her dad from China? Why'd this bastard leave his children and wife in the grip of gangsters--has he lost his memory or his morality? Couldn't he have sent them money? And what about Mrs. Butterworth's nephew, Chad? ;D By the way, California viewers--I DON'T REALLY WANT THESE QUESTIONS ANSWERED RIGHT NOW, even if you have the "scoop"--I just want to speculate about them. (Just in case anyone is tempted.) Bo

Well, now we know what the connection between Kum-ja and In-hwan is (and it's a doozy). And this will definitely twist the relation between Hye-ran and Hyun-kyu.
But we still have to find out how Tae-il (Kum-ja's husband) racked up lot's of debt and then took a powder. Stay tuned . . .

In one of my more cynical moments I was thinking, why should Kumja open her mouth in the first place? It's not like she ran over HK's mom. And obviously this was left as an unsolved crime. Inhwan didn't even look her way when she was in the emergency room. I guess it's just the ethical thing to do. I think my ethic-meter has been ruined after years of cable and prime-time viewing where people don't tell the truth when they should and then have it blow up in their face.

In one of my more cynical moments I was thinking, why should Kumja open her mouth in the first place? Yeah, I suppose she could. But that would go against everything that she is. She's so fundamentally, painfully honest. I don't think she'd be able to look anyone in the eye ever again--and she's skimpy with that already. This is truly a tragic character, so driven down by things beyond her control, so stoic in acceptance. When her husband came and told her what he'd done, you could just see the disappointment ripping her opinion of him apart. I think she's capable of trying to stop the wedding while not saying why, just to save her children the crushing shame, but I don't think she could just happily wave her daughter off to live with the boy her husband orphaned.
