Well, “Bodyguard” ended last night in Los Angeles. The final episode had a surprising twist to it, and I was worried that it might turn the series into a real stinker, but the writers were able to make it all work and I found that final episode very satisfying.
For such a short-run drama, I really came to love the characters (well, the heroes and heroines, not so much that mean old bald guy) but “Bodyguard” seemed awfully compressed. I think it could have been stretched out another five or six episodes without losing anything in terms of its overall quality.
One thing’s for sure – that final episode left us open for a possible “Bodyguard 2” sequel, though (from what I hear) there’s nothing’s in the works about it as yet.
BTW, is anybody in Chicago actually watching “Bodyguard?” This board seems disappointingly dead. Okay, there are the half-dozen or so of you die-hards who’ve made comments here, but what about everybody else? This seems like the kind of broad-based action drama that even the general public (and not just K-drama fanatics) would be able to get into, and I’d disappointed if it turns out that almost no one is watching it.

Mikey, I don't really watch Bodyguard regularly because I'm more into the family dramas and because if I didn't limit my "Korean Duramma" watching, I'd never have a life. I'm already greedy to watch the NON-captioned ones. I did catch a few episodes and it seemed funny and quirky. Could you tell me how many total episodes it ran? I'd like to try to see some of them, sometimes I just watch one a month and then watch the last few. You know, so I can cry. ;D Bo

Except for the news, I don't even watch American television any more -- and even so I'm still sometimes finding it hard to squeeze in all the Asian dramas I want to watch. "Bodyguard" goes for 22 episodes, so Chicago still has quite a ways to go. I personally found the series unusually interesting (each episode would just fly by as I watched it) but of course I know that no drama will be to EVERYONE'S taste. But I think that "Bodyguard" is certainly worth a look. Mikey

I'm enjoying Bodyguard too! It's different than the other shows. A nice change of pace.
I couldn't tell you the last time I watched an American prime time show. Survivor, The Bachelor etc.... they can keep 'em!

There's a few reasons why I think viewers may not be paying as much attention to 'Bodyguard' as to other dramas. TheBo brought up one of those reasons and also the Chicago Cubs were in the playoff hunt up until last week and the first 4 episodes of this drama coincided with their games so some viewers, like myself, probably chose to watch the Cubs over Bodyguard. With a short drama, some viewers may not enjoy the drama as much, or may not watch it at all, if they miss the first few episodes.
Now, my thoughts about this drama ...
Even before KBC started to give this drama I was quite critical of it, and although I still am, I will admit that watching it with subtitles has left a better impression on me. I still think this drama has quite a few problems though. Yes it's rushed because it's only 22 episodes but, at the same time, too much time is spent on stuff that's not esssential to the plot. I've watched shorter dramas that tell a better story. There's quite a few scenes that could have been taken out because they're not that important. Na-young , the skinny girl that lives with her grandma, or lived with her grandma since her grandma just died, I don't like her. I don't like the actress that plays her or her character. I find her extremely annoying (and she gets on my nerves even more in later episodes). Someone else should have been cast for this role. Lee Yuri, Sung Yuri or Ha Ji Won would have been better. Maya (Kyung-mi) has less acting experience than her and she does a better job. Cha Seung-won (Kyung-tak) is what saves this drama in my opinion. He does a very good job in his role. They cast the right person for the part. However, he needs to be in practically every scene otherwise the drama starts to fall apart.
Again, after watching it with subtitles, this drama has left a better impression on me. However, I still think, and I say this with all due respect to Michael Han and everyone at KBC TV, that there are better dramas that KBC could have given instead of Bodyguard.

whew...i'm glad that i didn't miss any final episode...hehehe...cuz the ending seem so abrupt to me. it's sad that i didn't get to see the first 7 episodes but i guess i didn't miss much huh? i sure wish they make it a bit longer...perhap more on Yujin and Kyung Tak...hehe. it sure seem like an open ending...up to the imagination of creative fans for a fanfic perhap . over all...i love it...hehehe...it was cute, funny, and full of action . the girl who played Na-young was okie but she was annoying sometimes. Maya was funny...hehehe...especially toward the end. Does anyone know what will be replacing "Bodyguard"? is it "loving you"? also...have anyone heard the soundtrack for "bodyguard"? if yes...can someone please translate some of the melow song(s)? hehehe...i love them all but have not a clue what they meant. also...there's a really nice spanish song in there too...hehe. to TheBo: ya ya...my "korean Duramma" watching is for sure taking over the American shows...except for "Friends" and "smallville"...hehe. but ya ya...hehe. ta ta to you all

I really like the music and have been sort of working at learning the theme song, "COOL hakey" (roughly "being cool" or, more precisely, "in a COOL manner"). If I get good at it, I will try it out in a local noraepang and impress everybody As for translating it, though, I'm having a lot of trouble. I have enough trouble with ordinary sentences. Korean has this little feature having to do with the fact that the verbs come at the end of the clauses: you are going along with a clause, and all of a sudden you come to a verb ending that changes the whole meaning of it to "it isn't true that...." or "although they say that..." or "I can't ..." or "if...." or "while it used to be..." etc. In the songs it seems they do this even more for the sake of rhyme and meter. Since I am pretty shaky on the colloquial uses of these verb endings, what I have is pretty dubious. hs

anyone know what will be replacing "Bodyguard"? is it "loving you"? Pearl Necklace replaced Bodyguard in Korea so that's probably the drama that you'll be watching next. Link for its official site is below. jinjoo.kbs.co.krHmm ... on a side note, I haven't been to a norae bang in a long time .. I want to go.

Just a note: "Pearl Necklace" did indeed replace "Bodyguard" in Los Angeles last Friday -- but it's being broadcast here without English subtitles Oh well . . . Mikey

about "pearl necklace"...is that the one with the guy who played the manager from Vegas in "Hotelier"? Not sure about the Vegas guy (didn't see "Hotelier") but the series began with people rehearsing for what appeared to be a stage production of “Grease” (it was a little weird hearing the Olivia Newton-John songs being sung in Korean). ;D Mikey

Mikey -
Just a side note - "Grease" premiered as a stage musical here in Chicago, before anyone in North America ever heard of ONJ.

okay, so since it ended in L.A. already, can anyone tell me, a girl that lives in chicago, what the outcome is with Yu-gin, Tak, and Na-young? that is what worries me.
