Hi, fellow daruma fans!
For those who enjoy Korean food, this weekend my husband and I visited a very nice place -- recommended by the guys at the KBC booth at the Korean Street Festival.
It's Garden Buffet at 5347 N. Lincoln Ave. in Chicago. It's cleaner than a lot of Korean restaurants, and the people are very nice -- taking time to explain everything on the buffet and to help us with grilling at our table.
Which brings me to the food. It's a buffet, so you have your choice of all kinds of side dishes and soups (I got to try the seaweed soup that always figures in birthday celebrations on the darumas) -- not to mention tempura, sushi, and lots of other things. Not everything fared well by sitting on a buffet (you can't keep things like tempura sitting too long before eating), but the gal-bi was great, and there's also the choice of marinated chicken, squid, makerel and so forth to grill as well. We really like this place, and will go back. It was $18 per person on a Sunday afternoon, and they advertise a $6.99 buffet during the week.
Phone number is 773.728.1249 -- and as a non-Asian, you won't feel out of place.

I think I might have eaten there before. Is it a new place that has a really gigantic dining room with decorative fountains? If it's the same place then I agree, it's very good. Btw, the $6.99 weekday buffet wouldn't include barbecue (but it does include all-you-can-eat sushi . I think when I went there, it was something like $15 for the buffet including barbecue.

Yes, it has a fountain at the front with lots of koi and turtles swimming around!

I know the place you're talking about. It's right by the police station on lincoln. You're right, it's a nice restaurant. It's not really new though, it's been there for a while.

I'm pretty sure it's new. I think there was another Korean restaurant in the same location which closed down, and Garden just opened up there a few months ago.
Btw, I went there again last night. Very good, but I think I like Song Do buffet a little better.
