...is up on Kocowa now, with English subs. Up for 24 hours to watch free with ads; then it goes behind their paywall.
Not only do we find out if we get the gender-equality cliff dive but we also find out what sort of CSI plot they've come up with to convict The Black Assassin based on an old scar that could have come from anything. This one will be a challenge.

Welp, this whole thing has become all about trying to create the most over-the-top good-versus-evil setup that the head writer can possibly concoct. The Black Assassin has turned into an insane raving lunatic. Didn’t even mention his pain over his dead son, just crazy evil. Even the Khitan stuff that they so generously gave us (Yes that’s sarcasm) got mixed in with the fairy tale nonsense. And if you’re keeping score, we finally got some acknowledgement of the Khitan story at 25:19. Gee, thanks guys for sneaking it into the first HALF of the episode. “The scar was from when I went hunting with the neighboring regional chiefs.” Okay at least he had a story ready. Would have been more effective if he’d said it was an accident from teaching his dead son archery...but it worked. I liked bringing back Gamchan’s elder from that gathering of clan leaders. Callbacks that reward you for watching the show, always fun. We didn’t see the events he testified about, but that’s not all bad...in fact it even heightened the surprise. And to clear up that one piece of business, we did not get the cliff dive. In fact they went on without showing us anything about how the situation in the woods resolved itself. Those two soldiers who couldn’t bring themselves to finish the job, did they run away? What happened to them? Are they in trouble now? Seems like this needed an explanation. But of course all of this is just more of the fairy tale, so who really cares. Probably I’ve said too much about it. (click for full size) THANK you! I was shocked that nobody simply grabbed a sword and did the job right there on the spot. Sheesh. Hyeonjong saying That’s how they would do it, well sometimes you have to fight fire with fire. This time Ji Chaemoon only had to fight off seven guys at once. Kid stuff. Good heavens, this is now the third time they’ve gone to the well on that. Even the first time it was cartoonish and embarrassing. Now the writers and producers are making fools of themselves. (click for full size) Not knowing how their story ends, I was surprised to see these two again, and enjoyed it. This was well done. Certainly the best moment of the episode. Yes that’s not saying much but it was good. (click for full size) Anybody else react to this scene like I did? He’s a middle-aged man who isn’t in very good shape; we saw that when he was trying to kill Hyeonjong and run away. Hyeonjong is a young guy, looks to be in good shape, and you have to think he had some martial arts training in the monastery. Why didn’t Hyeonjong fight back and kill him right then and there? He just flopped down and took it, even facing the end of his life at that moment, no fight at all. And for that matter, why isn’t there a sword or a dagger in Hyeonjong’s quarters to protect himself with? More evidence that the writers think we’re idiots. And the ending...We all know he didn’t ever go to Khitan and pay homage, much less live there as a hostage. All of the effort and expense that went into filming this part of the storyline, it was wasted because none of it can be taken seriously. Eventually this rebellion did run its course and it would be nice to think that we might get the real story of how that happened. But it’s all become secondary to the head writer’s ego. You watch and you patiently wait for all of this silliness to end so that hopefully some little shred of dignity can be brought back to the series with the final battle story. Hopefully. Maybe faint hopes, sigh.

And the ending...We all know he didn’t ever go to Khitan and pay homage, much less live there as a hostage. The entire episode was fiction. No warrior dictators in Goryeo history ever tried to send the emperor to a foreign nation to pay homage. Kim Hun and Choil Jil never did. Not a single warrior dictator during the Mongolian invasion ever did. Eventually this rebellion did run its course and it would be nice to think that we might get the real story of how that happened. Historically, Lee Jarim is the one who came up with the idea of killing Kim Hun, Choil Jil, and their followers in Seogyeong. Lee Jarim threw a party for them at Seogyeong and killed all of them when they got drunk. However, Hyeonjong came up with this idea in this drama and Lee Jarim turned into a mere messenger as seen at the end of this episode.

The entire episode was fiction. No warrior dictators in Goryeo history ever tried to send the emperor to a foreign nation to pay homage. Well sure, I mean it doesn't even make sense! Taking power for yourself is one thing but turning your own emperor over to your enemy nation? Even if your entire clan wasn't immediately murdered by outraged mobs, which they almost certainly would be, your family name would go down in disgrace for eternity. It would be the ultimate stupidity. And here Choi Jil is saying "It's the only way to survive"--there's no logic that supports this. UGH. And another thing I forgot to mention--remember how Gamchan was supposed to be the big #2 star, or even the big #1b star, and make the CSJ fans all happy? We're not even getting all that much of him any more. Yeah for a while there it was too much Gamchan so it's not all bad, but it really shows how far this thing has strayed from the original plan. I wonder what the CSJ crowd thinks of all this.

It never ceases to amaze me that the peak of this drama was Ep16 . After that it’s gone the route of Great Kings Dream/ Gwangaeto though not as bad as those two . Still the drop in quality of the storylines are hard to miss . The warning shot was the black assassin when he first appeared .

I’m curious how the novel handled this part

This one was a struggle to get through , it’s a candidate for the worst episode of the series . Thank the lord there is hope on the horizon .
