Not a lot to say about this one, other than we’ve got pissed-off people in every direction! Everybody’s got a gripe about something or other...some of them entirely legitimate, others not so much. Otherwise most of it was pretty slow, especially the first half. I mean, how much time did they spend scrutinizing the king’s hair? Yawn.
That whole thing about uncle Moon, what was the point of him ever being in the story? He showed up, passed the state exam, and then decided to leave town. Weird.
For once Sado was not a sympathetic figure. If he really was burning through cash like it sounded from his expense report, his father was entirely correct to chew him out. That was interesting, and much needed because we haven’t seen or heard enough about the things that legitimately got Sado in trouble.
Employee of the Month for this episode is easily Hwawan. She worked miracles—actually actually convinced her father to move himself and his whole retinue, and then got his permission for Sado to go to the spa. He owes her a huge favor, doesn’t he. And let’s not touch that one!
Wow look at the sour puss on her face. I thought all of that stuff about the vicious rumor was just lies spread to hurt Sado. Maybe not!
“Take a close look. These are the people of Joseon. These are our people.” This was easily the highlight of the episode, Sado taking his son out incognito into the city streets at night. Terrific scene. These kinds of scenes always end up adding something good to a series. I don’t know if the real Sado ever did such a thing but it was a nice piece of work either way.

■ Built in 1616, Kyunghee Palace used to stand where Seoul High School now stands. It was first named Gyungduk Palace. King Gwang-hae built it at the premises of King In-jong as a symbol of suppression. King Young-jo renamed it to Kyunghee Palace.
