Wow most of this one was a real stinker.
This whole Nanny Han business, I looked in LH’s memoirs and there really was a Nanny Han and she really did get kicked out of the palace. But the reason that she got kicked out was that she was teaching the young prince to play “martial games” with attendants. Simple play-pretend battles with toy swords, that sort of thing. Apparently that didn’t go over well with the power structure and they fired her. All of the storyline in this series has been complete fiction. And not very good fiction either.
Any comments about the hat? Apparently you get to wear this after you pass the state exam. Have never seen it before in any historical. Is it accurate? Have to think it is, if only because it’s so unlikely that anyone would just make up something so unusual and put it into the story.
I got next!
As usual, we have to get Mistress Moon instigating trouble and going back home and laughing hysterically about it. When is this going to end? It’s beyond bizarre at this point. Another character whose role has been wildly overexaggerated according to LH’s memoirs.
And even the fiction with her isn’t sitting well. Why isn’t the queen going straight to Youngjo and getting this all sorted out with him? She if no one else would be comfortable enough to do so.
And now some evil laughter from Kim Sang-ro, with some thunder to punctuate it. Ugh.
“A person with a vengeance does not age. They don’t even rot after being buried.” What an interesting thing to say. That was the line of the episode, easily.
So Sado, to his great credit, figured the whole thing out. Why not just go to his father and tell him what he suspects? It will clear the whole thing up if he’s right. Certainly Youngjo would understand it’s just an insightful guess.
Well if nothing else there's never a dull moment with Hwawan, is there. Now she’s all but openly jonesing for her brother, ick ick ick. Then all of a sudden from the trees we hear the call of a cuckoo…yeah how fitting is that!
The reference to Princess Yang Kwei-fei, that escaped me. I wasn’t able to turn up anything about her being insanely beautiful, but here’s a synopsis of a movie about her:
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Princess_Yang_Kwei_Fei
It at least explains the “fox” reference that Hwawan made.
“If you’re a peony flower, she’s a Japanese apricot flower.” For a minute there I thought Hwawan would put him in the rice chest before Youngjo could ever get to him! Very deft answer by Sado, that whole thing made me laugh real hard.
Some beautiful music during the scene where Sado is angry. Too electrified but very nice. It’s a shame that Arirang has muted so much of the music. There hasn’t been much to begin with. Too bad.
Dude, no jury in all of Joseon would convict you. Not one.
