If I'm quoting something directly and it's in quotation marks, it will always be exactly what the source gives us. That's an absolute. Obviously if it's weird then I'll try to clarify, but it's not like I'm an expert in some of this stuff, particularly Asian languages. As I've proven repeatedly lol.... Do you hear a Z sound when you watch the scene that mentions Gwiju? Z sound does not exist in the Korean language. I remember you corrected Yodong to the Chinese name Liadong back when you were doing a summary for LBW drama even though the subtitle was using the Korean name Yodong. You corrected Korean name to Chinese name but won't correct Chinese name to Korean name. I respect your decision to correct to the Chinese name Liadong despite the subtitle calling it Yodong since Liadong/Yodong has been part of China ever since the fall of Balhae. However, Gwiju has always been part of Korea except for a brief period of time after Goguryeo's downfall and Balhae's downfall. It is part of Korea in the timeline covered by this drama right now and it still is part of Korea today. Google "Guizhou," you will only find Chinese province in Southwest China near Vietnam, and nothing about Korea. Google "Gwiju," you will get 100s of results about the region in the drama. Also, you called Goryeo rulers as "Emperor" back in God of War thread. deiner.proboards.com/board/117/god-war-soldier

Great episode with strong acting. I'm finding Kang Jo to be a really interesting character.

truth if I've frustrated you or caused offense so far then of course I apologize. I know how prickly people can get about these things and it's never been my intention to get under anybody's skin, if I have done so.
With regard to Liaodong, yes I did catch something that sounded off in LBKT. If anyone wants to look, it's in the episode 15 thread. I caught it because Liaodong was a huge part of at least two different historicals that we've done here, and I heard the word hundreds of times over multiple series and knew enough to realize that something was off. I put "Yodong" in quotes, because that's how it came from the source, and noted what it was.
If you run the search function for this forum, you'll see that Liaodong comes up in more than 100 different posts even before this series, and is used multiple times in many of those posts. So I remembered, and knew better.
Here, I simply didn't have the recognition and that's why I didn't jump right on it. "Guiju" came up only a few times at the end of IE and "Gwiju" only a few times in GOW--both more than a decade ago. If I had remembered those and then saw "Guizhou" when it appeared, I'd have done the same thing that I did before. But it simply didn't register in my head. You guys have pointed out their mistake and so now I know. And if it comes up again I will note their mistake.
Same with "emperor." You guys have posted good info about that and I will try to catch whatever comes up as far as things I need to quote that should be corrected or noted. I don't disagree with you guys about any of these things--I agree with you completely.
The only thing that I cannot do is alter quoted material. A person can get in a whole lot of trouble for that. If I have to quote something that has an objectionably translated word in it, I will catch it whenever i can. If I don't catch something, simply speak up as you did and we'll all be better informed for it.

I caught it because Liaodong was a huge part of at least two different historicals that we've done here, and I heard the word hundreds of times over multiple series and knew enough to realize that something was off. Actually, Korean actors called it "Yodong" all the time. In DJY, Jeong Dojeon, and in the LBW drama. Korean actors call it Yodong because Yodong is the Korean name of the region. The word "Liadong" was never used by any Korean actors in all 3 series. So if you heard "Liadong" hundreds of times over multiple series, you probably misheard it. It was the English subtitles in DJY and Jeong Dojeon that called it Liadong, not the original Korean script. I had no objection to calling it by the Chinese name Liadong in English subtitles because it hasn't been part of Korea for the last 1000 years. I also did not object when you corrected LBW's "Yodong" subtitle to the Chinese name "Liadong," because it was part of China during the LBW timeline as well as the present day. Therefore, it would be considered logical to call it by the Chinese name in the English subtitle despite the original Korean script calling it Yodong. However, Gwiju has always been part of Korea except for a brief period of time after Goguryeo's downfall and Balhae's downfall. It is part of Korea in the timeline covered by this drama right now and it still is part of Korea today.

My suggestion is that if you feel strongly enough about this, send Kocowa a message and let them know you object to the sub. They obviously don't know better and won't know unless people tell them. Maybe they'd even appreciate knowing, if it's such a sensitive thing.
